Tottenham v Arsenal Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Wednesday 23rd September by @SC457

Tottenham v Arsenal – White Hart Lane at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 1

Tottenham host North London rivals Arsenal in the Capital One Cup this evening in the tie of the 3rd round. Spurs come into the match having won their last 3 matches whilst the Gunners have suffered two consecutive defeats. Although this is a League Cup tie in which Arsene Wenger will rotate his squad, he will be keen to avoid a 3rd loss in a row and get one over on their arch-rivals.

Arsenal have started their season poorly, especially as they were seen as serious title contenders before it began. After a quiet Summer transfer window, in which they didn’t sign one outfield player, they have won just 3 of their opening 7 league matches.

In addition to a slow start domestically, Arsenal started their Champions League campaign with a loss away to Dinamo Zagreb. Backing them on the Asian Handicap betting market this season, you would have only been profitable on one occasion, their 2-0 home win over Stoke.

They have been struggling in front of goal, scoring just 5 in their 6 league matches, conceding as many as they have scored. Creating chances hasn’t been a problem, taking out the Chelsea match from last Saturday, in which they had 2 player sent off, they had totalled 39 shots on target in their first 5 matches. Wenger now may be questioning himself over his decision not to bring in a striker.

Arsenal are expected to rotate their squad and with injuries to Wilshire, Welbeck, Rosicky, Coquelin and possibly Mertesacker injured, with Cazorla suspended, it could be a youthful line-up. Joel Campbell is in line for a start and Alex Iwobi may also get the nod, the 2 strikers will be keen to impress, especially as the Gunners are lacking goals.

Tottenham also started the season poorly, failing to win their first 4 league matches, but things have turned around for Pochettino’s men. They haven’t conceded in their last 3 league matches and last weekend’s 1-0 win over a good Crystal Palace side, would have really boosted their confidence.

They also defeated Qarabag 3-1 in their opening Europa League tie and new striker Son Heung-min has really made an impact, scoring 3 goals in his last 2 games for the club.

Tottenham reached the final of the competition last year, eventually losing out to Chelsea so Mauricio Pochettino knows the right formula to progress in the competition. To juggle the league, FA Cup, league cup and the Europe takes some doing and ultimately one will suffer, however a win over their rivals will be the only thing on Spurs players minds this evening.

For Arsenal, the short trip to White Hart Lane would be the ideal place to restore some confidence and turn their fortunes around but their recent form away to Spurs isn’t good. They have only won once in their last 5 matches at the lane, with Tottenham winning 3 of the last 4.

Spurs are hitting some form, whilst Arsenal seem to be going the other way. The young players brought in may give them something new but the value is with the home side.
