Wolfsburg v Borussia Dortmund – Volkswagen Arena at 14:30
Dortmund remains top of the Bundesliga and unbeaten after nine rounds of action but having picked up only a point when welcoming Hertha Berlin to the Signal Iduna Park, frustrated head coach Lucien Favre. With Bayern Munich back to winning ways, Die Schwarzgelben’s lead at the top was cut to two points.
English youngster Jadon Sancho had twice given BVB the lead, only to be pinned by Salomon Kalou – the second a last-ditch penalty equaliser – and post-match star forward Marco Reus called his team’s failure to close it out “naïve”. It was the first time this season that Dortmund had failed to take top honours at home.
For much of the season so far, Die Borussen have played emotional, raw, visceral and thrilling football, the like of which we haven’t seen since the heyday of Jurgen Klopp. However, there’s no denying that goalkeeper Roman Burki has been one of BVB’s better players this season.

Head coach Favre has repeatedly stated to the press that there is plenty of work to be done before Dortmund can be considered title challengers. His team’s flaky defending has been called into question, as has their concentration and ability to stick to his rigid game plan. Dortmund’s star quality has gotten them by.
Dortmund to bounce back
Nevertheless, it’s hard not to be seduced by 1.98 quotes on Dortmund bouncing back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon when they head to Wolfsburg. Hoffenheim and Hannover have both burgled draws against BVB when welcoming Favre’s troops, but Die Schwarzgelben should prove too good.
Operating off a 65% Expected Goals from open play ratio, and boasting the ability in the final-third that’s seen the visitors score an average of 3.22 goals-per-game, the guests are well-placed to pick up maximum points against a Wolfsburg outfit that have W1-D2-L2 at the Volkswagen Arena.
The Wolves maintained their Bundesliga status by winning the relegation play-off last time out, a far cry from the side that finished second in 2015. Bruno Labbadia took over in February and continues this term, but he brought little improvement to Wolfsburg as he had a W5-D6-L9 record overall.
That 20-game sample under Labbadia includes an alarming W2-D3-L5 return on home soil. Meanwhile, since the start of last season, Wolfsburg have managed only W4-D10-L8 when welcoming Bundesliga opposition, keeping only two clean sheets. Such charity is likely to be punished on Saturday afternoon.
