Strasbourg v Amiens Match Preview – 22nd February Saturday

Strasbourg v Amiens – Stade de la Meinau at 19:00 GMT

Strasbourg continued their upward momentum with a well-deserved 1-1 draw away at Lyon last weekend. The Alsace outfit were operating with minimal possession but still managed to restrict the home side to just five shots all game and could easily have taken top honours having twice hit the post late on.

The point consolidated Le Racing’s place inside Ligue 1’s top-seven with their impressive revival after a slow start continuing to impress. Thierry Laurey’s team appeared lethargic and jaded during the opening exchanges of the 2019/20 campaign due to their early Europa League commitments through the summer.

However, standard service has since resumed, particularly at Strasbourg’s atmospheric Stade de la Meinau base where the hosts have W7-D0-L2 since the start of September in league action. All seven victories have been recorded against clubs in sixth and below with Le Racing excelling in the final-third.

Strasbourg value to take top honours

Laurey’s troops therefore hold plenty of appeal at 1.80 quotes when they welcome relegation-haunted Amiens to the Meinau on Saturday night. The Alsace giants have taken maximum points in nine of their past 15 Ligue 1 matches at all venues and have rapidly climbed the performance data rankings.

In contrast, Amiens are rooted inside the relegation zone, winless since November (W0-D5-L8) and having lost seven of 12 road trips. The guests have leaked at least two goals in eight of those games as guests and have been beaten in 18/31 (58%) away days dating back to the beginning of last season.

Last weekend’s thrilling 4-4 draw against PSG – when Amiens chucked away a three-goal lead after half an hour at home – hit the headlines but the runaway league leaders had their eyes on the Champions League prize and fielded a heavily rotated and distracted XI.

Amiens scored four times from only five on-target attempts in that peculiar PSG encounter so there’s little reason to be overly enamoured by their most recent outing.

Meanwhile, since promotion, Amiens have registered three points from a possible 45 when travelling to top-half teams on Ligue 1 duty (W0-D3-L12) – conceding three goals or more on six occasions – and head to Strasbourg with the division’s worst Expected Goals (xG) ratio, as well as shots in the box ranking.
