Watford v Chelsea – Vicarage Road at 19:45 live on BT Sport 1
Watford welcome Chelsea to Vicarage Road this evening looking to continue their impressive season, but face a Blues side that are enjoying their best form so far this term.
The Hornets shook off a run of 4 four consecutive league defeats last time out by beating Newcastle 2-1. They sit in 10th place with 32 points from 23 games, the best tally at this stage from a promoted team since 2010.
The two sides met on Boxing Day and it took a Diego Costa brace to prevent Watford inflicting another home defeat on the defending champions. Since then they have been patchy to say the least and have struggled against the leagues more talented sides.
They have played 11 matches so far against sides finishing in the top 8 last season, winning just 2, drawing 2 and losing 7 and I don’t see any value in backing them tonight.
It was a good transfer window for Watford however. Keeping hold of their best players and signing the highly-rated midfielder Mario Suarez should prevent them from a slide down the table. With the likes of Deeney and Ighalo still amongst the goals, Ighalo with 7 in his last 7 at Vicarage Road, a mid-table finish still looks likely.
Chelsea are still unbeaten under Guus Hiddink and haven’t lost in 7 league games. Their 1-0 win at the Emirates against Arsenal in their last BPL outing showed the qualities they had when winning the league last season. There are certainly still some frailties that Watford will look to exploit however.
Their recent 2-2 draw with West Brom, having twice taken the lead as well as needing a last gasp winner from John Terry to salvage a point at home to Everton will give the Hornets hope.
Chelsea are chasing their 4th away win on all competitions and Costa is in-form, scoring 6 in his last 7 appearances. Watford have picked up just 3 points from a possible 15, against a struggling Newcastle side which makes the 1.95 on offer for Chelsea -0.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market look a good price.
I expect their to be goals and goals from both sides. There is some value on Over 2.5 goals at 2.26 with 7 of the Blues’ last 10 matches seeing 3 or more goals. Also, Watford have scored in each of their last 7 home games, with 5 of those all landing Over 2.5 goals.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Chelsea -0.5 at 1.95 & Over 2.5 goals at 2.26
Prices correct at time of writing.
