The Ukraine’s comfortable 2-0 win over Slovenia in Lviv on Saturday landed us an Asian Handicap betting winner, covering -0.75 and they should now progress to the Euro 2016 finals in France without too many complications.
The Euro 2012 co-hosts took the lead through Andriy Yarmolenko on 22 minutes taking advantage of Slovenian goal keeper, Samir Handanovic’s unconvincing punch. Yevhen Seleznyov doubled their lead after the break and despite a wasted chance by Josip Ilicic for the visitors, Slovenia were lucky to come away trailing by just the 2 goals.
Slovenia really do have a mountain to climb to get back into this game and will have to breach one of the best defences in qualifying at least twice to stand a chance. Only holders Spain, England and Romania shipped fewer goals in the group stages.
The Ukraine kept 4 clean sheets in 5 away matches in Group C including Belarus, Slovakia and Spain and they will be confident of another shut out this evening.
Failing to score in the 1st leg was Slovenia’s 7th blank in their last 16 internationals, however they only failed to score once in their 10 group games including putting 2 past England in Maribor in June.
An away goal in the 1st leg would have put Slovenia in a much better position but the way things stand it’s hard to see anything other than the visitors seeing this out. The Ukraine are a biggest price of 1.08 to reach the finals and are 2.65 favourties to win this evening.
Due to their strong defence and believing they can keep a clean sheet, I’m with the Ukraine for this one and I’m not expecting it to be a classic. Backing the Ukraine +/- 0 on the Asian Handicap betting market at 1.84 won’t be a loser and should nick us a profit. There is also some value on the Asian line in the goals markets and I’m also recommending Under 2 goals at 2.00
