Premier League Match Previews – 27th October Saturday

Fulham v AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth will be travelling to London for their Matchday 10 face-off against Fulham on Saturday. The Cherries are in great form despite failing to bag a victory in their battle against Southampton last week, only extending the three match-winning streaks they gathered just before the international break. They sit just four points behind the 4th placed Arsenal, although they still have a lot to prove this season. On the other hand, this season could turn out to be very disappointing for Fulham since things don’t seem to be working out in their favour following their defeat in 6 of their Premier League matches so far.

The Cottagers were defeated during their opening match against Crystal Palace, and then unsurprisingly lost at the hands of the Spurs. Though their 4-2 victory against Burnley raised their spirits and slightly gained back their confidence. However, the last two months were quite disappointing for Fulham following their 4-2 loss last weekend against Cardiff City which resulted to a winless run in 6 league games that eventually pushed them down to the 18th place. To add to their dismay, Bournemouth’s main asset this season has been their attacking ability, securing 16 goals in 9 of their league games. In addition, Fulham hasn’t won against Bournemouth since 1994, and they’ve been far from their best form at present too.

Meanwhile, Fulham was able to gather 25 league goals this season, which is way more than any other team in the top 2 rankings of the Premier League. It’s an average of nearly 3 goals per game but it doesn’t seem like their defence problems are getting any improvements. For Bournemouth, this will be an advantage for them. Since they are only 6 points behind the leading Manchester City, they will be battling Fulham quite confidently.

Leicester City v West Ham United

West Ham United will be closing their league fixtures for the month by travelling to Leicester City on Saturday. Leicester lost only once during their eight meetings against West Ham but that was during their most recent league fixture in May. The Foxes have enjoyed a solid start to the season so far, currently sitting at the seventh place in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, there was a lot of apprehension at the King Power Stadium as Leicester finally bid their goodbyes to Riyad Mahrez. Leicester’s new signing James Maddison proves to be an excellent substitute for Mahrez since the club secured a position to qualify in the Europa League qualifying rounds this season. However, they still have a long way to go to reach the top spot on the Premier League table following their losses to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United which bumped them down to the 11th place on the rankings.

Though if Leicester manages to come out victorious in their fixture against West Ham United, Cardiff, Burnley and Brighton, they will definitely move back to the top sooner than later. They look promising though, netting 9 of their league games and winning 4 of those. Furthermore, West Ham is currently in a chaotic state at present. They started their campaign quite dreadfully due to their loss in 4 of their opening fixtures. To make matters worse, West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko has been ruled out due to a torn Achilles, joining their long list of absentees along with Pedro Obiang, Manuel Lanzini, Jack Wilshere, and Carlos Sanchez.

Southampton v Newcastle United

This year’s Premier League hasn’t exactly been kind to either Southampton or Newcastle United. Both teams are currently very low in confidence and in the bottom ranks at the Premier League charts. Southampton began the season by gathering only a single point from their three starting fixtures before bagging a victory against Crystal Palace, but that win didn’t do anything to bring them to the top of the table though. Instead, they followed their disappointing start with another as they bagged two draws and three losses that left them hovering just one point above elimination.

However, the Saints’ draw against Bournemouth last weekend wasn’t really that disappointing considering how impressive the Cherries have been this season. In the meantime, Newcastle United is desperately trying to find something positive from their last match. The Magpies are coming in their 10th fixture of the season without a single win. They slipped to the bottom of the ladder as they were once again defeated last weekend.

Understandably, this match will not really be a thriller since both have netted just 12 goals combined in the Premier League this season. Southampton scored their last goal over a month ago during a draw against Brighton, and bearing in mind Newcastle’s 2 draws out of their 4 away matches, and Southampton being winless at home so far, it is however hard to predict who among these two teams will come out victorious.
