Football Career

Malcom is best described as a cross between Chelsea winger Willian and swift striker Neymar. Much like the PSG star, Malcom was hailed as a Brazilian prodigy and a fan favourite right at the start of his senior career. In his first two seasons with French club Bordeaux, he picked up a total of 20 goals and 11 assists throughout all competitions. Back in 2008, he became part of Corinthians’ youth ranks. His exemplary showing convinced Coach Mano Menezes to add him to the main lineup. He was a regular first team player of Time do Povo in the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A where they won as champions. He made 73 appearances during his tenure with the club.

AS Roma move gets hijacked

The 21-year-old star was set for a move to Italy after both AS Roma and Bordeaux closed a reported €40million deal. The I Giallorossi were preparing to roll out the carpets for their new signee when Bordeaux blocked the move. The sudden change sent shockwaves, not in the least to Malcom. Her mother was prepping to see his official unveiling only to be surprised that Barcelona made a last-minute steal. Camp Nou has now confirmed that Malcom agreed to a five-year contract for an initial €41million fee. Sporting director Monchi commented on this failed move in Roma’s official Twitter account, saying the club may consider legal action against Bordeaux. There was nothing yet signed indeed, but there are many messages with the agents and Roma President James Pallotta that are at least worth assessment and scrutiny. He then claimed that after Barca sent in a higher offer, Bordeaux refused to let Malcom travel to Rome. Monchi stated that their side made a new offer but ended negotiations because they refuse to play a part “in a bidding war”.
