Man Utd v Reading – Old Trafford at 12:30 live on BT Sport 2
FA Cup holders Man Utd kick off their defence this Saturday lunchtime as they host Reading at Old Trafford. United are going well and should safely make it through to the 4th round. However, it’s the visitors who offer some value on the Asian Handicap market.
After a disappointing start to life as United manager, Jose Mourinho has steadied the ship and his side are now progressing nicely. Performances have been constantly improving and results are finally following.
The Red Devils are currently unbeaten in 13 games across all competitions and have won their last 6 league games
They are 6th in the Premier League, but now sit just 3 points behind rivals City, in 4th place. If United’s current form continues, I expect to see them break into the top 4 very soon.
Man Utd are still fighting for silverware on four fronts. Although they are a long way behind league leaders Chelsea, you can never write Utd off. They have an EFL Cup semi final against Hull in midweek and have a last 32 Europa League tie with St Etienne next month.
Jose Mourinho seems to be taking cup competitions seriously. However after a busy festive period I expect some rotation.
The Royals, managed by former United player Jaap Stam, are going well in the Championship. They are currently 3rd in the league and can narrow the gap to 3 points behind 2nd place Newcastle with a game in hand.
Stam has done extremely well since taking over at the Madejski. His time spent on the Ajax coaching staff looks to be extremely valuable. Reading enjoy a lot of the ball and use it well. They have also shown some real character in recent weeks.
They have won 8 of their last 11 fixtures in all competitions, however their away form is inconsistent.
The Royals have won 7 times in 14 road trips this season, but have also lost 6 times, including back to back away defeats to Leeds and Fulham in December. However, they have won both of their last 2 away games 3-2.
The hosts come into the match as 1.24 favourites which seems a bit short to me despite their recent form. Mourinho, although expected to take this competition seriously, will surely rest some big names. I I expect them to come through this tricky cup tie unscathed but can’t get behind them -1.75 at 1.86 on the Asian Handicap market.
Reading are a good side who are going from strength to strength and will be really up for this. I don’t think they have to quality to cause an upset, but they have enough to make this difficult for Utd.
Backing them with a 2 goal advantage at 1.85 offers some value.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Reading +2 at 1.85
