Liverpool v Tottenham – Anfield at 17:30 live on Sky Sports 1
Saturday evenings live Premier League offering see’s mid-table Liverpool play host to title chasing Tottenham at Anfield. Spurs will be looking for a vital 3 points to keep the pressure on league leaders Leicester who play on Sunday and the Reds will be hoping to bounce back from a defeat to Southampton last time out.
It’s been a difficult and disappointing season for the hosts, but fans will hope there has been some improvement since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival. He can only do so much with his squad, which was put together by predecessor Brendan Rodgers though and it’s fairly easy to see where the Merseysiders weaknesses lie.
Their defeat to Southampton summed up their season, 2-0 up at half time, but a dreadful second half with plenty of defensive errors, they walked off the field as losers. That defeat has left Liverpool 7 points off the top 4 with a game in hand, but there is now no margin for error if they are to land themselves a place in Europe next season.
That defeat to Southampton was their first league defeat since the beginning of February when they lost 2-0 away to Leicester. It was also just their 5th defeat in all competitions in 20 under the charismatic German and despite struggling at home this season, they have lost just one of their last 6 matches at Anfield.
They also have a superb record against their opponents, only losing once in their last 16 meetings with Tottenham and just twice in 21 meetings at home.
Tottenham are enjoying a fantastic season, currently 2nd in the table, 5 points off the top with 7 to play, they are 3.75 to lift the trophy this year.
From their remaining 7 fixtures, this looks one of the more difficult tasks, especially when you consider their recent record against Liverpool, losing 5 of their last 6. They have also not won at Anfield since May 2011 and have lost the last 3 on the spin.
This is a much better Tottenham side than in recent years though and will provide a much tougher test for the Reds on Saturday than their last 3 trips to Liverpool.
There is not a lot separating the two teams in the betting with the hosts edging favourtism at 2.61 as you would expect with their recent record over the visitors. However, it’s Spurs I make the value bet on the Asian Handicap betting market +/- 0 at 2.11.
The two teams play a very similar style of football and a draw may well be a likely result but the Tottenham defence, even without a doubtful Alderweireld and a more potent attack than Liverpool’s, backing them +/- 0 at odds against is a good bet.
There is even more value on the goals markets however, with 5 of Liverpool’s last 6 matches and each of the last 3 meeting between these two at Anfield all seeing Over 2.5 goals, which you can back at even money to happen again this weekend.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Tottenham +/- 0 at 2.18
