Lille v PSG Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Friday 7th August

Lille v PSG – Stade Pierre-Mauroy at 19:30 live on BT Sport Europe

French champions Paris Saint-Germain begin the defence of their Ligue 1 title with a potentially tricky away trip to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy to face Lille tomorrow night. The home side were champions in 2011 but after their 8th place finish last season, a place in Europe will be a good achievement for them this campaign.

PSG go into the match as favourites, which is no surprise having finished 7 places and 27 points above Les Dogues last season. The Parisian’s won their third consecutive title last year and along with it, the Super Cup, Coupe de France and Coupe de Ligue, the first time in history any team had done so.

Laurent Blanc has had a very successful pre-season, winning 4 of their 5 friendlies and beat Lyon 2-0 in the Super Cup last weekend. He will hope to carry that momentum into tomorrow night and look to dominate their title defence from the outset.

They have added to their squad, bringing in goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, midfielder Benjamin Stambouli and the completion of the signing of Angel Di Maria is imminent. They are expected to retain the title once again with ease and are as short as 1.12 to do so.

Lille held PSG in this fixture last season, with the match finishing 1-1, however the last time they met was in Paris when Les Parisiens won 6-1. In their last 7 meetings, Lille have drawn 2 and lost 5.

Les Dougues are somewhat of an unknown quantity however, with many changes to their team, including new manager Herve Renard. Renard is known mainly for his African Nations Cup success with Zambia and the Ivory Coast but is largely inexperienced at club level.

He has previously managed in Ligue 1, when in 2014 he was unsuccessful in keeping FC Sochaux from the drop. He will be hoping for a better campaign this season and getting positive results at home will be pivotal in their quest to earn a place in Europe next year.

Lille’s record at home in 2014/15 was impressive, winning 11 of their 19 matches, losing just 3 times but avoiding defeat tomorrow evening will be extremely tough.

PSG have been in top form during their summer friendlies and despite  being without the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, they have plenty of attacking options to put a couple past their opponents.

It is worth noting that Lille have only failed to score once against PSG in their last 5 meetings at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, but backing the champions -0.75 on the Asian Handicap betting market, means we will profit if they were only to win by the single goal.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: PSG -0.75 @ 2.05
