Leicester City v Everton – King Power Stadium at 16:00
On Sunday Everton visit Leicester City in what on paper could be a dull Super Sunday match, but recent events make it an interesting game that could define each side’s season.
Puel back in England
Leicester City appointed former Southampton manager Claude Puel as their new manager this week in a move that would’ve surprised many. The Frenchman did well with the Saints, leading them to an eighth-place Premier League finish and a League Cup final appearance, but his style of play did little to appease the Southampton faithful and he was shown the door as a result.
Upon his appointment, Leicester’s vice-chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, described the former Lyon managed as a “perfect fit”. It remains to be seen how he will set up the former Premier League champions, but Sunday’s clash could set the precedent to move forward with.
Who’s next for Everton?
After another defeat last weekend, Everton showed the door to Dutch manager Ronald Koeman. The Toffees simply haven’t performed to expectations this year and currently find themselves in the relegation zone.
With a range of managers linked to the vacant job, from Sam Allardyce to Carlo Ancelotti, Everton fans will be wondering who will get the job of trying to save them from relegation.
Sunday’s game could prove make or break for the club for this year. Perform well and it may just tempt an Ancelotti back to England, but put in another poor display and it may put off the big names from taking the reigns.
There’s a big difference between an Ancelotti and an Allardyce and Sunday could be the decider.
