Leicester v Chelsea – King Power Stadium at 20:00 live on Sky Sports 1
An intriguing match awaits us tonight as the Premier League’s biggest surprise package Leicester City, play host to the league’s second biggest shock, Chelsea. The Champions currently sit in 16th place in the table, just one point above the relegation zone!
Leicester City continue to confound their critics by maintaining their stunning early season form, for what is now close to half the campaign. The Foxes were just 4.0 to be relegated this season and you could have backed them at 5000 to win the Premier League!
However, a win tonight over the reigning champions would see them return to the Premier League summit and their current price of 30.00 to win the league would shorten again. Honestly, I do not think Leicester can win the league but, in this crazy season anything is possible right now.
Back to tonight’s game and this is the start of a tough run of matches for Claudio Ranieri’s team, that should give us a clearer picture on where this team can really aspire to finish when the league reaches its climax in May.
They have lost just 1 of their 15 league games this season, but with tonight’s match being followed by away games at Everton and Liverpool, then at home against Manchester City. It would still be a real shock if they had only lost one game by the time they face Bournemouth on January 2nd.
Chelsea on the other hand, have really struggled to find any kind of consistent form and as much as it pains me to say it, they really have not had the rub of the green in terms of marginal decisions this season.
The return of John Terry against Porto in midweek seemed to help their defence, but a bigger factor could be young keeper Thibaut Courtois, who has a presence and command of his box that Asmir Begovic could not provide.
Neither side, has any fresh injury concerns and both are expected to line up virtually the same as in their previous outings. With this in mind, the current form of both teams and the fact that Leicester are playing at home, it is beyond me why they are priced up as big as 3.25 to win.
This puts their Asian handicap betting line at +0.25 at 1.89, this line would have returned a profit on the Foxes in all but one of their seven home games so far this season. When you consider that five of those seven home games were against teams who are currently in the top seven of the table, it looks a great line for a match against the 16th place side in the league.
Obviously, Chelsea are not your average 16th place team with their star studded line up and ruthlessly successful manager. But, their problems have been apparent in all areas of the team this season and their away record of P7 W1 D2 L4, can’t be dismissed as bad luck at this stage of the campaign.
Only the modest talent at West Brom failed to claim any points when hosting Chelsea and even then the Champions needed to score three goals to edge past the Baggies. In their other six away games, the Blues have only managed to score four goals and with the Foxes averaging two goals per game at home, the Blues will need their shooting boots on to get anything from tonights match.
Leicester have actually started to tighten up at the back of late, with just two goals conceded in their last four league games and they will be full of confidence when taking on Chelsea. Although, just the one clean sheet in front of their own fans and the fact that Arsenal stuck five past them, will give Jose Mourinho something to work with when planning his tactics for the match.
Even after 15 games everyone is still expecting the real Chelsea team to appear from the darkness that has shrouded their season so far and I would not be surprised at all, if this match proved to be a turning point in their season.
However, the form of both teams and the huge value available on the hosts tonight means that there is only one bet to recommend here. Regardless of the end result tonight, you won’t go broke backing teams who are over 5% value according to model prices.
