Lazio v Juventus – Stadio Olimpico at 19:30 GMT live at Eleven Sports
Juventus had to battle to the finish line to secure their seventh consecutive Serie A crown last season but the Old Lady are already out of sight in their quest to clinch an eight straight Scudetto title.
Max Allegri’s men hold an eight-point advantage ahead of second-placed Napoli after 20 rounds of action, with the Turin-based club boasting an unblemished invincible return of 18 wins, two draws and zero defeats. Included in that sequence is five victories from five for the Bianconeri over top-five rivals.
Eyebrows were raised when Juve splashed the cash on Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer and the Portuguese superstar has helped to propel the club even further clear of the chasing pack. And although the 33-year-old missed a penalty last weekend, the Old Lady still cruised to a 3-0 triumph over rock-bottom Chievo.
The Bianconeri bagged three goals or more for only the fifth time in that encounter, a match that came without second-top scorer Mario Mandzukic, Miralem Pjanic, and Sami Khedira. All three could be absent again here but the all-conquering visitors should still prove too strong on the day.
Old Lady expected to triumph
We can back Juventus at 1.88 with a -0.50 Asian Handicap hurdle and it’s a selection that’s proven profitable in each of their last five trips to the capital to face Lazio in all competitions since 2014/15. And the timing of this meeting couldn’t be any better with the hosts enduring a recent slump.
Biancocelesti were beaten by Napoli last time out with the Partenopei hitting the woodwork on three occasions during their 2-1 win. That defeat means Lazio have now slipped out of Serie A’s top-four following a run of only two victories in nine league outings since early November (W2-D5-L2).
Both wins came against bottom-half opposition and Simone Inzaghi’s side hold a rotten record when taking on the league’s elite in recent seasons. The Biancocelesti have come away empty-handed in 10 of 13 winless meetings with top-six rivals, including five of six such showdowns in 2018/19.
Even at their Stadio Olimpico base, Lazio have lost five of seven such fixtures with Serie A’s leading lights and with Juventus streets ahead of their hosts across a range of performance data metrics, I’m happy to support a repeat on Sunday.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Juventus -0.50 at 1.880
