Inter Milan v Sassuolo – San Siro Stadium at 19:45 Live at BT Sport
Inter Milan head coach Luciano Spalletti declared the Nerazzurri are “playing better than at the start of the season” after watching his team triumph 4-0 against out-of-form Udinese last weekend.
Needing a win to keep their slender hopes of Champions League qualification alive, Inter was missing a number of leading lights. Matias Vecino and Danilo D’Ambrosio were suspended after a controversial 3-2 defeat to Juventus, Roberto Gagliardini was injured, and Joao Miranda pulled out in the warm-up.
So the way in which Spaletti’s side ran riot was all the more impressive. Inter could have been three goals up inside the opening half hour but the pressure eventually paid with the Nerazzurri sitting on a three-goal advantage at half-time following goals from Andrea Ranocchia, Rafinha, and captain Mauro Icardi.
Borja Valero completed the rout midway from the second period but the game had long since concluded as a contest with Spalletti understandably delighted with his team’s reaction following their brave but ultimately fruitless fixture with Juventus a week previous.
Sassuolo can keep Inter competitive
Sassuolo head coach Beppe Iachini thanked his players after beating Sampdoria to take them definitively out of the danger zone. The Neroverdi mathematically secured their Serie A status with a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria last Sunday with the soon-to-be-departed Matteo Politano grabbing the decisive goal.
Sassuolo has now suffered a sole reverse in 10 (W4-D5-L1) as they move away from troubled waters and although the visitors to the San Siro will have little left to play for, the Neroverdi can keep the contest competitive, especially when given a kind +2.25 start on the Asian Handicap line.
The guests have suffered a 7-0 shellacking at Juventus and a 6-1 battering at Lazio already this term but both games came under previous regimes. Even the recent 4-1 reverse at struggling Crotone in their most recent away day failed to reflect the complexion of the contest.
Inter are looking to set-up a final day shoot-out with Lazio for a top-four finish and have claimed W4-D1-L1 in their past six on home soil, shipping a sole goal. But three of their four San Siro wins by more than a two-goal margin came against teams in the bottom-four and the handicap here looks a little too big.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Sassuolo 2.25 at 1.870
