Golden State Warriors at Houston Rockets – Toyota Centre at 00:10 live on BT Sport 1

While Champagne corks are popping and the New Year gets rolling, the NBA carries on in unrelenting fashion as a jarred up Golden State Warriors head to Houston to square up to the Rockets in a live BT Sports clash at 10 minutes past Midnight UK time.

Golden State face the biggest crisis of their seemingly unrelenting season so far as they tackle back to back road games after a crushing 25 point loss to the Mavericks last night. Much has been made of the effectiveness of the reigning champs without the best player in the NBA, Steph Curry. Curry remains absent after recovering from a relatively minor leg injury but should return in a few days.

The Warriors are also carrying a few other less significant injuries including Harrison Barnes (ankle), Leandro Barbosa (shoulder) and Kevon Looney (hip).

The Rockets have been a relative disappointment so far this season, carrying only a 16-17 record coming into the game. They have been on the wrong side of a lot of close losses this season, summed up by falling to the Hawks with a late collapse on Tuesday night.

The take on the game has to come around how much value can be placed on the loss of Steph Curry. He is undeniably one of the greatest talents ever to play the game and last night showed how much of a loss he is, going down by 25 in a game they were 4 point favourites for. However they still bring an incredibly strong squad to the game including Rush, Green, Bogut and Thompson.

If this were an ordinary game on neutral ground with 2 fully fit squads, the Warriors would be somewhere around 14-15 point favourites. Without Curry, knock off 5, playing a back to back, knock off another 3, and away court disadvantage, another 3. Despite everything the Warriors have against them, I still make them favourites by 3-4 points and considering they can be backed at odds of 1.95, I believe this to be an overreaction to the challenges the Warriors face tonight.

In a rare opportunity to back the Warriors close to even money, it is just too tempting a proposition to pass up, and will be backing them on the money line this evening to beat a team that doesn’t even hold a .500 record.

Handicap Betting Recommendation: Golden State Warriors to Win at 1.95
