Genoa v Lazio Match Preview – 23rd February Sunday

Genoa v Lazio – Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris at 11:30 GMT live at Premier Sports

Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi is suggested that the Biancocelesti are not feeling the pressure despite sitting second only to Juventus in Serie A, and suggested Le Aquile were “always confident” they’d turn a losing position around to beat fellow Scudetto challengers Inter in last weekend’s Stadio Olimpico clash.

Lazio fought back from an Ashley Young opener to win 2-1 with Ciro Immobile’s penalty and a Sergej Milinkovic-Savic strike proving decisive on the night. The victory extends the Biancocelesti’s unbeaten run to 19 games since September (W15-D4-L0), leaving Le Aquile a solitary point off the Serie A summit.

No longer can anyone deny that Lazio are competing for title honours. This side has already embarked upon a club-record streak of 11 successive league wins from October into January, beaten Juventus twice and now also beaten the Old Lady’s apparent major challengers despite trailing at half-time.

Lazio’s rise this season is a triumph of the collective, rather than any individual and together Inzaghi’s squad have a chance to make history. The Biancocelesti last won the Scudetto in 1999-2000, under Sven-Goran Eriksson – one of only two previous titles triumphs for Le Aquile in their long and illustrious history.

Lazio to continue upward surge

There’s plenty of reason to believe Lazio will continue their upward surge on Sunday as they travel to relegation-threatened Genoa and the visitors are an appealing play at 1.73 to overcome a -0.50 Asian Handicap hurdle. As well as their sensational unbeaten streak, Le Aquile are experts against the lesser lights.

The Biancocelesti have bagged 15 victories from 17 league encounters against sides in seventh and below this season, scoring at least twice in 14 of those fixtures. Lazio have pocketed seven wins from nine away trips in that same sample and have only dropped points at rivals Roma on the road since October.

Hosts Genoa have recorded back-to-back triumphs with the Grifone taking full advantage of an early Bologna red card last weekend to record an eye-catching 3-0 success through Soumaoro, Toni Sanabria and a Mimmo Criscito penalty. Nevertheless, Davide Nicola’s outfit remain rooted inside the bottom-three.

Genoa have earned two points from 10 tussles against the top-eight (W0-D2-L8) and have been turned over at the Marassi when welcoming Atalanta, Roma and Milan already. The Rossoblu have leaked two goals or more in all 10 duels with the top-eight and are likely to be overawed by Lazio’s effervescent attack here.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Lazio -0.50 at 1.730
