Fenerbahce v Man Utd – Sukru Saracoglu Stadium at 18:00 live on BT Sport 3
Faltering Man Utd travel to Turkey on Thursday evening to face Fenerbahce at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium. The Red Devils ran out 4-1 winners in the reverse of this fixture 2 weeks ago, but they should be prepared for a sterner test this evening. With a very strong record at home, it’s Fenerbahce who offer some value on the Asian Handicap market.
At the half way point in group A, Fenerbahce sit in third position on 4 points, 2 points behind Feynoord and Man Utd. There is still everything to play for, and despite a poor start to the season, the Turkish side are starting to turn a corner.
Dick Advocaat seems to have taken a while to settle in a the new Fener boss, but can now boast a 6 match unbeaten run in the Turkish Super Lig. Yes they were taken apart by Utd just 2 weeks ago, but there is an err of confidence round the club and good reason to believe they can get something out of this game.
The Yellow Canaries home record speaks for itself. They have lost just once on home soil this season and have only suffered 2 defeats in their last 41 matches in all competitions.
They are also the only team to have beaten the in form Feyenoord this season and have now won 6 of their last 7 European games at the Sukru Saracoglu. Fenernahce are priced at 3.69 to win.
Since their 4-1 win over Fenerbahce at Old Trafford, it’s been a difficult time for United. They were thumped 4-0 by Chelsea and then could only manage a 0-0 draw with Burnley. That has left them 8 points adrift of the top 3 and they are already looking unlikely to finish in the top 4.
In the Europa League, they have won their last 2 home matches, having lost their opener away to Feyenoord. That has given them a 2 point gap between them and third place, but with 2 away matches before hosting Feyenoord, nothing is assured.
Man Utd’s away form has started to cause some concern. They have now won just one of their last 5 road trips, losing 3 times. They have also drawn blanks in 3 of those 5 matches. They failed to score with 37 attempts against Burnley!
Although United banged in 4 against there hosts just two weeks ago, they are struggling for goals and form away from home. Due to this, they don’t justify their price of 2.13.
Fenerbahce’s home record is excellent and are rarely beaten at the Sukru Saracoglu.
I expect this to be a tight low scoring encounter, but one that hosts have a good chance of edging. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mourinho set up very defensively as he would be happy with a point so it could frustrate the hosts.
However, I’m happy to take the 2.08 on Fenerbahce +0.25 on the Asian Handicap market, which would still see us pick up a half win if it was to end in a draw.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Fenerbahce +0.25 at 2.08
