Everton v Sunderland Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 1st November

Everton v Sunderland – Goodison Park at 13:30 live on Sky Sports 1

Sam Allardyce was brought in as Sunderland boss to shake things up and save them from the drop….even after only 9 games had been played! The Black Cats registered their first win of the season against rivals Newcastle last Sunday but it wasn’t the greatest of displays.

Their defending was undisciplined and lazy which afforded Newcastle plenty of time and space going forward. Colloccini’s sending off was pivotal, 0-0 at the time and the Magpies were on top in all areas.

Despite their extra man for 45 minutes, Sunderland saw only 39% of the ball and created 9 chances, 3 on target compared to Newcastles 21 chances, 8 on target. The result will have built some confidence and I believe Allardyce will improve their poor defence but I didn’t see enough from them to believe they have turned a corner just yet.

Everton will see this fixture as one they should get 3 points from and get back to winning ways. With just 1 win in their last 5 league matches, including back to back defeats coming in to this match, it’s important for Martinez to lift his players otherwise they could potentially spiral down the table.

A penalty shoot-out win over Norwich in the Capital One Cup will have boosted morale, however, Romelu Lukaku’s agents comments in the week will not have pleased the Toffee’s boss. He claimed the striker would leave the club for the right price but Everton will need him focussed for Sunday.

Everton come in tho the match as 1.50 favourties and I can’t see anything other than a home win. Sunderland have failed to score in their last 3 away matches and will find it hard to break Everton down. The 1.86 available on Everton -1 on the Asian Handicap betting market is value and at very least we’ll get our money back if they win by a single goal.

There is also some value on the goals market with Under 2.5 prices up at a big looking 2.17. Five of their last 6 meeting between the two side have seen 2 goals or less and excluding last week’s derby, Sunderland have only managed to score twice in 5.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Everton -1 at 1.86 & Under 2.5 goals at 2.17

Prices correct at time of writing.
