REAL SOCIEDAD V CELTA VIGO
Celta Vigo will be looking for revenge against Real Sociedad as they scored a 2-1 lost to the latter at the close of November. The two teams clashed earlier that month, sharing a 1-1 draw. The draw was an equalizer, but the hosts are emerging favourites. Their Wednesday 2nd Leg will hopefully solidify the ground between them.
The month of November went well for Real Sociedad. Although they shared draws with Celta Vigo and a goalless game with Sevilla at the start of the month, they beat Levante in a 3-1 win during the first week at the Spanish La Liga. They then defeated Celta Vigo just three days later. Sociedad, however, lost to Real Betis at the second day of December.
Celta Vigo, on the other hand, had a tough and rough November. After their draw with Sociedad, they shared a 3-3 draw with Real Betis at La Liga, albeit the match being close. They went unlucky when they faced Real Madrid with a losing 2-4. They only managed to avoid the losing streak with their 2-0 against SD Huesca at the start of December, after their defeat to Sociedad.
Sociedad and Vigo, nevertheless, are twin brothers in their forms with both of them picking up two wins, two draws, and enduring two defeats in their last six matches. Sociedad is expected to be confident and proud of their last and recent victory over their rivals.
Moreover, Sociedad is sitting tenth in the league table, while Celta Vigo is two places away at thirteenth.
It will surely be a tough fight between the two teams, but Sociedad will potentially dominate Anoeta Stadium this coming Wednesday.
GIRONA V ALAVES
Over a month has passed since Girona and Alaves shared a 2-2 draw in the Copa del Rey, and their Wednesday match will be a strong decider of their respective places as compared to each other in the new season. Both of them are doing well in the current season with Alaves sitting right above Real Madrid at fourth, while Girona is just two places below the latter at the eighth.
At the second day of December, Alaves had managed to hold Sevilla into a 1-1 draw at the Estadio de Mendizorroza. At the same day, Girona shared a draw with the same tally with Atletico Madrid. Alaves was the bigger opponent based on the league table, but Girona would be flexing their equilibrium with Madrid.
Girona has a greater form in their last six matches compared to their Wednesday rivals. At the end of October, they beat Rayo Vallecano in La Liga, and managed to maintain a 2-2 draw with Alaves themselves. In the third day of November, they scored a goal against goalless Valencia. Seven days later, they shared a goalless draw with Leganes. They beat Espanyol by the 25th day of the same month before their game with Madrid.
Alaves, on the other hand, ended October with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal in La Liga, and a 2-2 draw with Girona in Copa del Rey. they competed and lost their match with Eibar netting 1-1 at the fourth day of November. They managed to gain a win once again in La Liga when they scored a 2-1 win over SD Huesca, but lost to Leganes before their draw with Sevilla.
With the hosts unbeaten in their last seven matches, it could be confidently put that the Wednesday game will be intense, as both teams are expected to score over 2.5 goals.
VILLAREAL V ALMERIA
Before their most recent clash last early November this year, Villarreal and Almeria waited over three years to meet again. Their draw was an indication that they already forgotten how to deal with each other these past years.
Villarreal had managed to avoid defeat by maintaining a three-time draw streak throughout November. On the fourth, they held a 1-1 draw with Levante in La Liga. Four days later, they faced Rapid Wien in the Europa League Group G and both of them emerged without scoring a goal from the match. By 11th, they shared another draw, this time with Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
Villarreal had pushed further to achieve a 2-1 victory over Real Betis in the Primera Division, but made a step back when they shared a goalless draw with Rangers in the Group G. Earlier that month, they fell a little further, losing 0-2 against Barcelona.
Although they have managed to equalize with Villareal last November, Almeria does not have the best defensive records in the Spanish Segunda Division as they have not kept a clean sheet in their last nine matches in all competitions. They are winless in their last four games in the Spanish Segunda and sits in the twelfth place in the division’s table. Moreover, they did not score a single goal in their last four visits to Villarreal.
Villareal is confident about their brewing performance in El Madrigal on Wednesday. The game will be another chance for the host to make a good record this new season.
