It’s a busy week for Tottenham, having played Aston Villa on Monday, they host Anderlecht tonight in the Europa League before facing Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday. They will be looking to bounce back from the reverse fixture, losing to Anderlecht a fortnight ago 2-1 and gain an advantage in a very tight Group J.
Just 2 points separate the four teams, Spurs currently in 2nd, level on points with their opponents. A win tonight would take them step closer to the last 32 and I make them good value to take 3 points at 1.70.
Domestically, Tottenham have won 5 of their last 7 league games, drawing 2 and are unbeaten in 11. In Europe they have won 1, drawn 1 lost 1 and have struggled for consistency with their performances. Players have been rested for their previous Europa fixtures and I would expect them to rest a couple this evening with the North London derby at the weekend.
However, with home advantage and an unbeaten run of 6 home games in Europe, 4W 2D, they have enough quality to see off Anderlect despite the Belgians recent good domestic form.
Anderlecht have moved up to second in the Belgian league following an 11 game unbeaten run, scoring 10 goals in their last 4 league matches. However, they have only managed one win in their last five European fixtures and have not won on the road in 12, drawing 6 losing 6.
With a lot at stake, this should be a close, tough match. Spurs have more quality and can be backed at 1.84 -0.75 on the Asian Handicap betting market which is tempting. However, Spurs have a tendency to concede, 7 in each of their last 8 matches in all competitions, including all 3 of their Europa league fixtures.
Anderlecht have scored in 9 of their last 10 domestic and Europa matches and to pick up a full win backing the home side -0.75, I think Spurs would have to score 3. Instead I’m recommending Over 2.5 goals at 1.98 and I’m hoping for an open and exciting match.
