Toronto FC v Seattle Sounders Asian Total Goals Preview – Saturday 9th December

Toronto FC v Seattle Sounders – BMO Field at 21:00 GMT

The climax of the MLS season is now upon us. Toronto FC host Seattle Sounders in what is a repeat of last year’s MLS Cup final and the Canadian outfit will be intent on gaining revenge. I think the majority of people will agree that Seattle lucked out a bit in the 2016 finale. They were second best throughout, but some stout defending and great keeping from Stefan Frei enabled them to win by virtue of a penalty shoot out. This time around you could argue the visitors are in better form, although Toronto has been the stand outside for most of the campaign. The hosts are -0.5 Asian Handicap favourites heading into the contest around the 1.80 mark. On the face of things, this looks a little short although they are an extremely formidable side.

One area of concern for Toronto backers here is the fitness of key striker Jozy Altidore. He is rated doubtful due to injury, although claims he will play. I think it’s fair to say that he won’t be 100%. Despite all this, the big American should still be a force though, and his sheer presence on the pitch would be a massive boost to TFC. The home team will be led by key man Sebastian Giovinco, who has been relatively quiet during the playoffs so maybe he could be in for a massive performance. Toronto had a 13-3-1 regular season home record and BMO Field is a real fortress. I think they are more likely to win, but at an odds-on price I couldn’t touch them to win inside 90 mins, the value simply isn’t there.

I’m not interested in backing either team on an Asian Handicap, but I like backing the Unders on a 2.25 goalline. Last year’s final ended 0-0 after 90 mins, and the one regular season meeting between these two teams ended 1-0 to Toronto (in Seattle). This has all the makings of a tight contest where one goal could probably seal a victory. Both defences are very good and have been operating at a high level in these playoffs. A repeat scenario of last year’s final could easily happen but I do have a sneaky feeling one magical Giovinco moment might enable Toronto to sneak it 1-0 or something. Either way, I really like the Unders here due to the nature of the occasion and the strong defences on show.

Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Under 2.25 goals at 1.990
