Southampton v Liverpool Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Wednesday 2nd December by @SC457

Southampton v Liverpool – St. Mary’s Stadium at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 1

Southampton and Liverpool clash tonight in the quarter final of the Capital One Cup at St. Mary’s looking to book their place in the semi final. They will be hoping to join Man City, Everton and Stoke in the draw and there is nothing to separate them, both priced up at 2.70 to win tonight.

The Saints come into the match on the back of two consecutive league defeats at the hands of 2 of the semi finalists, Man City and Stoke. It has been an inconsistent start to the season for Southampton, currently sitting in 10th spot, winning 2, drawing 2 and losing 2 of their last 6 games. Despite their patchy form, they are only 5 points behind the top 5 and a win tonight would give them a boost in confidence.

It’s not been the start Saints fans would have wanted after a fantastic season last year and having been knocked out of the Europa League in qualifying, they are focused fully on the league and domestic cups. The Capital One Cup will be their best chance of silverware as well as being a route back into Europe, but it’s a competition they won’t have fond memories of after being knocked out at this stage last year to League One side, Sheffield United.

As for Liverpool, they are starting to build some momentum and have now won 6, drawn 3 and lost just 1 of their 10 games under Jurgen Klopp. They have won 6 of their last 7 matches in all competitions, including wins over Man City and Chelsea, scoring 13 times in that period.

You have to go back 10 games to find Liverpool’s last blank but they have also conceded in 6 of their last 9 and I would be surprised if they kept Southampton out this evening.

The League Cup was the last trophy Liverpool won, back in 2012 and although it is the least respected cup for a Premier League side to win, I have no doubt that Klopp will place some importance on winning this trophy. A top 4 finish will be the priority and he is certainly going the right way about making that a reality but a day out at Wembley and a piece of silverware will be good for the club after a disappointing couple of seasons.

Southampton have enough talent to cause any side a problem and are capable of beating Liverpool, however, their last 2 defeats would have knocked their confidence. The Reds are on the crest of a wave at the moment and will be stronger with the return of some keys players.

Liverpool are improving all the time and are the value to book their place in the semi final this evening. I’m expecting this to be a close affair but if a side can edge this one, it will be Liverpool and backing them +/- 0 on the Asian Handicap betting market is the bet for tonight.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Liverpool +/- 0 at 1.98
