The first of my Capital One Cup 4th Round previews this week see’s Championship side Sheffield Wednesday take on an in form Arsenal side who have now won their last 4 in a row, their longest winning streak since the end of last season.
Sheffield Wednesday themselves are enjoying a great run of form, now unbeaten in their last 8 including a win over Newcastle in the last round of this competition. They are currently 9th in the Championship after 13 matches, just 5 points behind the play-off places.
The Owls have a host of new signings as well as a new manager and could be serious contenders for promotion this season. Despite their focus on the league, they will relish the challenge in facing one of the country’s top sides and will certainly attract a few punters at 9.0 to cause an upset.
Arsenal are in fine form though. Wins to nil over Man Utd and Bayern Munich were impressive, as was their 3-0 victory over a Watford side who had conceded just 1 in 4 at Vicarage Road before welcoming the Gunners. A well earned 2-1 over Everton a the weekend showed their confidence is high and I can’t see past an Arsenal win this evening.
Compared to their first 6 league games, scoring just 5 times, Arsenal have scored 13 in their last 4 and I expect them to continue that form tonight despite the chance Wenger will rotate with more important matches coming.
A win over Spurs in the last round showed they are taking this competition seriously and I expect them to make the quarter finals fairly easily and cover the Asian Handicap line of -1.25 tonight. It’s a line they have covered 3 of their last 4 matches including Utd and Bayern.
Arsene Wenger has never won at Hillsborough and Arsenal haven’t won their since 1993. However, Arsenal’s away form this season is excellent, winning 6 of their 7 matches on the road, their only loss coming in the controversial defeat by Chelsea when they ended the 90 minutes with 9 men.
At 2.10, the Gunners are superb value on the Asian Handicap betting market -1.25.
