Tromso v Sogndal

The northern outfit have lost 3 of their last 4 games but I sense they aren’t in a bad place right now. The standard of performance by TIL has been quite good since the summer break and they probably should’ve picked up more points. Tromso haven’t been as defensively strong in the last few weeks and that can be attributed to constant injuries and suspensions, along with a change of mindset. It’s been noticeable how attacking the side have been, and even pushed the boat out against Rosenborg last time out. They lost 1-3 thanks to a late goal but realistically deserved to cover the +1.75 asian handicap they were set at. Tromso haven’t been as strong at home this year, possessing the third worst record in the league. However, Alfheim Stadion is traditionally a fortress and they looked much better during the 2-1 win against Viking last time out here.
Sogndal preview
For a promoted team, Sogndal have performed pretty well this season. They’ve only lost six games and sit fairly comfortably in midtable. Eirik Bakke’s men had a brilliant unbeaten run of nearly a dozen matches not so long ago, although this hot period has cooled off. Sogndal have now only won 1 of their last 7 games and recently let slip winning positions with not long left. They failed to see off Start and Stabaek (both 1-1) and I just sense the spark from this team has gone a bit. They should ultimately survive, and with a bit to spare, but there’s a chance their campaign could fizzle out. It looks like the visitors have few injury concerns ahead of this trip to Tromso and their XI is usually quite consistent. Sogndal are draw masters and 10 of their 22 matches have ended all square, which is an unusually high amount for a Tippeligaen side.
Conclusion & betting analysis
Tromso have a little bit of a security blanket ahead of the relegation zone for now, but they need to keep picking up points to ease their fears. A home match against Sogndal should yield a good chance of victory. The visitors are hard to beat and often draw games, but if Tromso play to their best then they’ll get the job done. Nobody likes playing up north and if they can perform like they did facing Viking I personally see a home win. Sogndal have to be respected, but their squad is quite limited. Tromso are available on a -0.25 handicap around the 1.91 mark and this looks generous enough. The goal line is set at 2.5 and I also considered the overs here. But the traditional nature of both teams is to be more conservative, so I’ll just stick with the Tromso pick.

Stabaek v Rosenborg

The hosts are fighting for their lives and have only lost one match since new coach Toni Ordinas took over. But because of their shocking start to the season they are still located third from bottom, which would result in them facing a relegation playoff match against the third placed OBOS-Ligaen side. Stabaek are certainly heading in the right direction although face a difficult task here. Many people will expect them to lose against Rosenborg and Ordinas will probably just see this as a bonus fixture in which they have nothing to lose. The squad has been in good condition recently and there’s confidence within the team. A lot of sides in and around the relegation zone are nervous, but that’s not really the case with Stabaek because they’ve been playing catch up for such a long time.
Rosenborg preview
The defending champions are a massive 15 points clear at the top of the table and have all bet secured another gold medal. At this rate it won’t be very long until they can officially celebrate their success again. Rosenborg are a class apart in Norway and no team can come close to them when they are in the mood. The rest of this season is now about trying to secure another double and be as professional as possible,. This team rarely seems to lack motivation so I’m expecting them to produce another good performance here. As usual, the squad looks set to be in pretty good condition, although winger Yan De Lanlay is ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious injury. RBK have such great depth that they could field a second string side and still have too much for most teams though!
Conclusion & betting analysis
Rosenborg will probably win this match but they are on a -1 asian handicap line and I’m never totally sure I can trust them on the road. RBK have only won 5 of their 11 away matches and if they do have an achilles heel, it’s on their travels. Stabaek are a plucky team and unlikely to go down easily. I’m sure Toni Ordinas will fight fire with fire and try to utilise the attacking weapons at his disposal. In 6 of his 8 games in charge both teams have scored and the majority of fixtures ended over 2.5. Rosenborg aren’t particularly renowned for high scoring away games but I see this fixture panning out in similar fashion to how they beat Lillestrom 4-3. Over 2.75 goals at 1.85 looks like a perfectly acceptable bet. There’s enough firepower on both sides to fully cover this line and I don’t think this’ll be a boring contest by any means.
