Tromso v Bodo/Glimt & Valerenga v Odd
With 2 games remaining in the Norwegian league, both of the final weeks games will be played simultaneously over the next two Sunday evenings and the standard approach to selecting bets has to be heavily influenced on end of season bias.
One team in particular that catches the eye is Tromso, as they host Bodo/Glimt in an attempt to clamber to safety.
Tromso have had a rough season after securing promotion from the 2nd tier in 2014 and can thank their home form on still having a chance to survive.
The men from way above the Arctic Circle have now gone 4 games at home without defeat and will see Sunday and an absolute must win.
The signs don’t look good if you’re a Bodo/Glimt backer on Sunday. Winless in four, no chance of relegation, no hope of Europe, an awful 3-0 defeat to Lillestrom at home last week and half the squad being dragged round travel agents getting their hols sorted for a week on Monday.
When one team is giving 110% and the other is giving 65%, league tables have to be taken with a massive lump of salt and you can bank on Tromso getting the job done. They can be backed (-0.75) at 2.05. Get on.
Elsewhere in Norway, the battle for a top 3 spot rumbles on, with 4th placed Odd heading to Valerenga needing a win to keep their slim hopes alive. Although Valerenga still have a mathematical chance of reaching top 3, the use of the term ‘mathematical chance’ might as well just mean ‘impossible’.
Odd have been superb on their travels in 2015 collecting 27 points in 14 fixtures, only 2 points shy of champions Rosenborg.
Recent form for Odd has been excellent bagging 6 wins in their past 8 with only their only recent defeat coming to the hands of Stromsgodset who have been brilliant at home all season.
Odd’s flamboyant (and uncompromising) head coach Dag-Eilev Fagermo refuses to play defensive formations on the road. Earlier In the week he was quoted in the Norwegian press as saying “Why should we not play 4-3-3 away from home when we’re the best team”.
If nothing else, you have to admire his confidence.
Valerenga won’t be easy to knock off as their unbeaten run now extends to 5. The biggest issue with that streak however is that it has mainly come against teams with significant injuries, sides with little to play for or relegation fodder.
Odd will have the greater motivation here and you know there will be open play and lots of chances, as with all Odd matches. With that in mind I see little reason to take the quarter goal insurance (at -0.25) and instead back Odd to win the game outright (-0.5) at odds of 2.55.
