Swansea v Watford – Liberty Stadium at 20:00 live on Sky Sports 1
After what Quique Sanchez Flores described as Watford’s worst performance of the season last Wednesday against Southampton, the Hornets travel to Swansea looking for their first league win since Christmas.
The Swans themselves are in desperate need of a win having lost their last 3 on the spin, including a FA Cup defeat at the hands of League Two side Oxford.
Despite starting to find the back of the net, Swansea head into the match in the relegation zone after Newcastle climbed out of the bottom 3 with a win against West Ham. Three points for the hosts would see them back in 17th place and are 2.45 favourites this evening.
The Swans are on a slippery slope however and their 4-2 home reverse against fellow relegation rivals Sunderland last week was a damaging loss and I can’t justify why their price tonight is as short as it is.
Watford have only managed to pick up 1 point in their last 4 league matches, a 2-2 draw with Chelsea, after a very successful December which saw Odion Ighalo and Quique Flores win player and manager of the month. This recent poor form goes someway to explain their price of 3.38 but good performances in their narrow losses to Tottenham and Man City show they are better than the solitary point they’ve picked up since Christmas.
In Odion Ighalo the Hornets have the 3rd highest scorer in the Premier League and in Troy Deeney they have a player who is in excellent form. Both will be looking forward to facing a Swansea defence that has conceded 9 in their last 3 matches in all competitions.
Whilst their defence has been falling apart of late, they have been finding the back of the net, scoring 5 in their last 3.
With both sides struggling for form, it’s hard to back either team with any confidence but I do make Watford a bit of value +0.25 on the Asian Handicap betting market at 1.90. There is more value in the goals markets though.
Both teams are capable of scoring and should be all out looking for a much needed win. Over 2.25 goals on the Asian Line at 2.09 is a big price and my official recommendation for tonight.
