Switzerland v Portugal Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Tuesday 6th September by @SC457

With two Asian Handicap betting winners from two so far this international break, I’m turning to the Asian goals line for tonight’s recommendation.

European Champions Portugal begin their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign with a tough away fixture against Switzerland this evening. St. Jakob Park in Basel is the venue for what should be a very tight affair.

The visitors are edging favourtism at 2.82 but both managers are likely to adopt a cautious approach to this opening group match. Hungary, Latvia, Faroe Islands and Andorra complete the group but it’s Switzerland and Portugal who are expected to finish in first and second.

Neither side will want to lose this match and would settle for a draw going into the game. It’s a match that I can see the defences coming out on top and chances will be at a premium.

Switzerland made it to the last 16 of the Euro’s this Summer, finishing 2nd to France in the group stages. They were knocked out on penalties by Poland after a 1-1 draw. They managed just 3 goals in 4 matches but defensively they were strong, conceding just twice.

Portugal’s first major tournament win, was uninspiring, winning only one game in 90 minutes. Three draws in their group saw them qualify as one of four third place finishers. Draws against Croatia and Poland followed in the last 16 and quarter finals, winning in extra time and on penalties respectively.

Their only win came against Wales in the semi finals before defeating hosts France in final, 1-0, after extra time.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains out of the squad after picking up an injury in the Euro 2016 final. That leaves Portugal with Nani as the main attacking option and captain. Without the Real Madrid star, they could struggle to find a break through against a defensively strong unit.

Similarly, Switzerland lack a prolific goalscorer and focal point up front. They have a lot of talent elsewhere round the pitch, but miss an out and out quality striker.

Head to head, there isn’t a lot to separate the two nations. From 6 matches in Switzerland, the hosts have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 1. From their last 10 meetings there have been 4 draws with each side winning 3 a piece. Another draw looks likely here but at 3.05, I don’t think it offers much value. A single goal could just nick this one.

I’m expecting a fairly negative display from both nations and as a result, not many, if any goals. The value for this match is backing Unders on the Asian line. Under 2 goals at 1.96 is a good price and at very worse, we should get our money back. I’m expecting a positive result however.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Under 2 goals at 1.96
