Arsenal v Tottenham – 19th December Wednesday

Arsenal v Tottenham – Emirates Stadium at 19:45 GMT

Arsenal will welcome the Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening for their Carabao Cup clash. When the Spurs visited the Emirates Stadium less than three weeks ago, they were beaten badly by their opponents. However, the Spurs improved a lot since then so it should be expected that they will come into this match fixture with renewed confidence. Meanwhile, the Gunners will come into this one fresh off the back of their first defeat in recent time so it will be interesting to see how these two sides will take on each other.

The Gunners are currently on a high under Unai Emery since the Spanish boss was selected to replace the long-serving Arsene Wenger during the summer; however, they still find themselves struggling to keep up the pace in the race for the Premier League title. They were unable to keep their form when they drew a 2-2 away match against Manchester United, then lost against Southampton over the weekend.

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur won three fixtures since their defeat at the Emirates during the start of the month. They also went further to deliver a very remarkable performance at Camp Nou, something that even some of Europe’s best teams failed to achieve over the last several years. The team continued its improvements under Mauricio Pochettino but they are yet to bag any trophies as of now.

This season has been a solid one for both of these teams. However, their defensive abilities have been a bit of an issue for both teams as well. In their previous ten combined league fixtures, both were able to keep three clean sheets between them. Both of their recent form has been good other than the Spurs’ setback to Wednesday’s opponents during their derby, which was their only defeat in eleven matches. Expect the match between these two rivals to be a heated one.

Toby Alderweireld has been Tottenham’s rock in the centre defence. As a strong, physical and imposing centre-back, he has become an extremely vital player for the Spurs over the last few seasons, delivering the best attacks and helping Tottenham secure a position in the Champions League qualifying rounds. MATCH PREDICTION

Arsenal v Tottenham: 2-2

Arsenal won their previous six home fixtures in all competitions including that 4-2 triumph against their North London rivals. Unai Emery also has an impressive record in Cup competitions, guiding Sevilla to three Europa Cup victories and winning both local awards in his spell at Paris Saint-Germain. Furthermore, Tottenham managed to share a draw with Barcelona, a stellar feat considering the level of greatness the Spanish outfit has become in European football. Aside from that, the Spurs already have eight away victories in the Premier League. Both sides have strong records so a draw should be on the line.
