UBS Hong Kong Open Betting Preview – Thursday 22th October by @RobBanner_

UBS Hong Kong Open – Hong Kong Golf Club live on Sky Sports 4

The final event of the regular European Tour season takes place this week, the UBS Hong Kong Open. This is significant, because those ranked outside the top 110 in the Race to Dubai standings after this week, will lose their playing rights for the 2016 season. Therefore we can expect some improved performances from the players ranked below 110th. The past two renewals of the Hong Kong Open haven’t featured particularly strong fields, but that’s not the case this time around, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed are all competing, as well as some European Tour regulars, including talented Englishman, Matthew Fitzpatrick.

This tournament was added to the European Tour schedule in 2002 and since then, Hong Kong Golf Club has hosted this event. No player has had more success around this venue than Miguel Angel Jimenez, who has won around this track on four occasions, the Spaniard can be backed at 25/1 this week. The course is a par 70 that measures 6,699 yards, the fairways are tree-lined, and therefore accuracy off the tee is advantageous. The winning score is likely to be around the 13 under par mark and with just two par 5’s throughout the course, playing the par 4’s well is imperative.

David Horsey – I’m happy to take on the likes of Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose and Patrick Reed this week as their motivation is questionable, and my first selection is four time European Tour winner, David Horsey. The Englishman has had another successful season, he won the Made In Denmark and has since finished 3й in the Russian Open and 9го in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Horsey hasn’t played in this event over the past couple of years but it’s a golf course that suits his game. His last two visits to this week’s venue have resulted in 15го and 21улица place finishes, this indicating it’s a venue he can go well around.

2pts each way @ 45/1

Craig Lee – Admittedly, Craig Lee is one of the more inconsistent players on the European Tour, but at 150/1 I have to have him onside this week. He’s finished inside the top 10 on four occasions this season and that includes a 6го place finish last week, which suggests his games in good shape. Last week’s performance secured his European Tour card ahead of the 2016 season, therefore he can play with the pressure off. Last year was the first time Craig Lee competed in this event and he finished in a respectable 54го position and shot a five under par second round, we can expect better this time around.

0.5pts each way @ 150/1

Robert Dinwiddie – I’ve backed Robert Dinwiddie on a few occasions this season and he looks well worth chancing at 200/1 this week. He’s struggled with injury problems in recent years but he appears to have overcome them. Dinwiddie has recorded three top 10 finishes over the last four months and this week’s venue appears to really suit his game. The Englishman is an accurate driver of the ball and the short course should be right up his street.

0.5pts each way @ 200/1
