Tottenham v Southampton Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Sunday 8th May by @DarkDyson

Tottenham v Southampton – White Hart Lane at 13:30 live on Sky Sports 1

Tottenham’s dream of Premier League glory turned into a nightmare at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. Spurs were leading 2-0 at half time, but Mauricio Pochettino’s young team lost their heads completely as Chelsea stormed back into the match.

Their comeback was largely thanks to second half substitute Eden Hazard, who looked like last season’s POTY again, with his sublime equalising goal that handed the 2015/16 title to Leicester City.

Many Spurs fans are talking about how close they came to winning the league and how they had the quality to overhaul Leicester at the top. But, in reality they never really got close enough to the Foxes to put them under any real pressure.

Now Spurs find themselves under some pressure of their own, as they sit just three points ahead of arch enemies Arsenal with two games to play. Just imagine the ignominy of finishing below Arsenal again, after all their title chasing exploits this season.

Luckily for Spurs and their fans, their superior goal difference over Arsenal means that they only need to win one of their two remaining fixtures to insure that they at least get one over the Gunners this year.

Unfortunately, they face two tough games to end their campaign, before a trip to Newcastle on the final day, they host Southampton who sit second in the form table with five wins, two draws and just one defeat in their previous eight league games.

Spurs own form is solid, despite recent draws confirming their failure to win the league, four wins and four draws shows how hard they are beat. But, after the battle at the Bridge on Monday, where Spurs set a new Premier League record of nine yellow cards, they could well be missing a few players on Sunday.

At home against teams like Southampton, Spurs have a split record with two wins and three draws, but with only two defeats at White Hart Lane this season, the visitors still have a big job on their hands against their demoralised hosts.

Southampton do not have a good record when playing away against the top teams, with just one point picked up from three road trips against the rest of the top four so far. Plus, the fact that they have only found the back of the net once in all three games, will not fill their fans with much confidence ahead of Sunday’s clash.

As well as being second in the current form table, Saints have been banging in the goals with 15 scored in their last six games and although there is still a chance that they could finish as high as 5го place, they seem to be playing without any pressure.

This is a very tricky game to call and a lot will rest upon Pochettino’s ability to raise his squad’s spirits after missing out on the title earlier in the week. Also, if Toby Alderweireld & Danny Rose fail to recover from the knocks they picked up against Chelsea, they will be a much changed side.

The market has Spurs at around 1.98 to win the match which, gives them a -0.5 Asian Handicap line to cover and I believe this to be about right considering various negative factors against them.

They were a very similar price against Manchester United at home recently, but they will be without at least two if not three or four regular starters this week and Southampton come into the match in very good form.

This is without taking into account the effects of missing out on the title just a few days ago.

There have been lots of goals in Saints recent games, even Aston Villa managed to score twice against them despite losing the game. White Hart Lane has seen 61% of games end with Over 2.5 Goals and with Saints in form I am looking for that trend to continue on Sunday.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Over 2.5 Goals at 1.83
