Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund – 13th February Wednesday

Tottenham v Dortmund – Wembley Stadium at 20:00 GMT

Borussia Dortmund will travel to North London to take on the Tottenham Hotspurs for the first leg of their Champions League clash. Dortmund are recently experiencing an upsetting spell form which saw them drop out of the DFB-Pokal Cup in the hands of Werder Bremen as well as two draws with both Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim in two Bundesliga fixtures. Lucien Favre’s men might enter this match under sheer pressure and will be hoping to get a positive outcome at Wembley on Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur, on the other hand, may not be the favorites to win the title in the Champion League; they are definitely not a team to be taken lightly. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently seated at the third spot in the Premier League standings, just five points below league leaders Manchester City.

The Spurs are in decent form to survive Wednesday’s challenging test against the Bundesliga side, winning 11 of their league fixtures since the conclusion of the group stages. Their 3-1 success against Leicester over the weekend kept their record to 3 consecutive wins.

Dortmund aren’t exactly the underdogs as they are currently seated at the top spot of the Bundesliga standings. They have been one of the most outstanding teams this season, both in the domestic and European competitions. Unlike the Spurs, the German giants comfortably eased through the group stages.

However, there’s no denying that these past few weeks have been a struggle for the visitors but they will obviously be keen on wanting to bounce back as they face the Premier League side on Wednesday. The only thing sure about their battle is it will definitely be an entertaining showdown.

KEY PLAYERS

Tottenham

Сон Хён Мин has been a driving force behind Tottenham’s triumphant run this season. With key player Harry Kane currently nursing an injury, Son made up for Kane’s absence and led the Spurs to countless victories that helped them secure the third spot in the English top flight. His greatness and remarkability wouldn’t be stopping any time soon especially with the Bundesliga giants as their opponents.

Dortmund

Jadon Sancho has taken over European football in storm, helping Borussia Dortmund secure victories that paved the way for them to sit on the Bundesliga throne. He has been an important player for Dortmund this season, notching 7 goals with 9 assists in the Bundesliga alone and one goal in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. He has been involved in Dortmund’s victory lately and Wednesday’s clash shouldn’t be any different.

MATCH PREDICTION

Tottenham v Dortmund: 2-2

A draw could be on the cards for Wednesday’s clash between Tottenham and Dortmund. Despite having struggles in their recent performances, the visitors managed to score in all except for 2 of their previous 15 Champions League outings though conceded in 9 of those. The hosts, on the other hand, have been a real threat lately especially in the Premier League. Their current form as well as a home turf advantage could be enough to get them a crucial first leg victory.
