Tottenham have been in good form since they lost to Chelsea at the Bridge back at the beginning of December. They have not lost a league match since the 3-0 defeat and have booked themselves a place in the League Cup semi final. They really have started to click under Mauricio Pochettino playing well and getting the results. They were looking for their 4th straight win against in form Man Utd on Sunday but must have been happy to walk away with a point after Utd created many chances and looked the better side. Spurs improved in the second half but were unable to break the deadlock. Scoring seems to be a problem for Spurs at home this season, only netting 7 times in their last 9 league matches at the Lane. They’ve averaged only 1.1 goals per game at home and with conceding an average of 1 goal each match, they need to improve to keep pushing for a Champions League spot.
Chelsea dropped points on Sunday against a determined Southampton side at St. Mary’s. Chelsea had more of the ball, but a well organised Saints side kept them from creating any clear cut chances. Tottenhams’s defense is not as strong as Southampton’s, conceding 10 more league goals before going into Sunday’s matches. Spurs’ defense has been hit by injuries and has had to be rotated throughout the season, José Mourinho will be looking to exploit this. Chelsea’s closest title challengers, City, also dropped points as the Blues head into Thursday’s fixture with their 3 point cushion still in place. With the Citizens at home to Sunderland, a game they are expected to win, Chelsea will need to be on top form to not let that lead slip.
Taking in to account Spurs’ home form and the fact that José Mourinho will be all out to avoid anything but three points here, I think Chelsea will win this without too much bother. Anything else will allow Man City to close the gap, so my recommended trade is to back Chelsea to Win @ 1.8.
