Top Scorer Market, Euro 2016 – Tuesday 7th June by @DarkDyson

Today, I am taking a look at the Euro 2016 Top Scorer market and hopefully finding some value bets who will give us a good run for our money, in a market which often throws up some big priced each way winners.

Euro 2016 – Top Scorer

At the top end of this outright market, it is no surprise to see the big name goal scorers, from the most fancied nations, after all the more games a player can play, the more chances he will have to score.

However, with some big prices on offer and each way terms usually meaning a player only needs to finish in the top four goal scorers for your bet to pay out, there are always some long shots worth backing in this market.

At Euro 2012, Fernando Torres was crowned top scorer with just three goals to his name and previous to that, three goals would have been enough to put a player in the top four and on most occasions higher, in every tournament going back to 1972!

Even with the increased number of teams and subsequent extra knockout round, I would expect three goals to get a player pretty close to, if not comfortably, finishing in the top four goal scorers overall.

The current Top Scorer Market looks like this –

  • Muller at 11.00
  • Ronaldo at 11.50
  • Griezmann at 12.50
  • Giroud at 17.00
  • Kane at 18.00
  • Lewandowski at 19.00

Tempted by any of those?

They are the cream of the current crop and all but Olivier Giroud have had their customary, high scoring seasons domestically. However, the Frenchman is bang on form right now having netted seven goals in his last four games for club and country.

He like many strikers who are not quite at the top level in their position, is a streaky scorer, he tends to get his goals in bunches and then goes quiet for weeks or even months in a row. Couple that with the fact that France have a relatively easy looking group and should go deep in the competition, he is an obvious choice to back.

Of the other star names at the head of the market, I like Robert Lewandowski at the prices available, he has had a fantastic season for Bayern Munich where he racked up 30 goals in Bundesliga. Plus, he was the top scorer in Euro 2016 qualifying with 13 goals in just 10 games.

Looking at some of the bigger priced options in the market one player that catches my eye (but not many other peoples it seems), is Eden Hazard.

Yes, I know he had an awful season for Chelsea this past year, but I think that could well work in his favour in France this summer. He should be just about the freshest player at the tournament and he is coming into it with some impressive form.

He finished his 2015/16 campaign with the Blues having scored four goals in five goals, one of which was an absolute worldie against Spurs, which ended their title chase. At international level, he has scored six goals in his last ten games for Belgium and now as Captain and penalty taker, I think he is set for a big Euro 2016.

Playing in France will be like a home coming for Hazard who came to prominence with with Lille in Ligue One and having finished as Player of The Year in the Premier League in the 2014/15 season, we all know the heights his game is capable of reaching.

Priced at 51.00 in the Top Scorer market, he looks good value to me to finish in the top four by the end of Euro 2016.

Euro 2016 Top Scorers Recommendation: Olivier Giroud at 17.00, Robert Lewandowski at 19.00 and Eden Hazard at 51.00 (all e/w)
