Esbjerg v Hobro & Aarhus v Brondby
This Sunday, two featured games from the Danish Superliga start with the Sunday lunchtime kickoff as the relegation favourites Esbjerg and Hobro face off in a 12.30pm kick off.
In this column before the international break last week, I fancied Esbjerg to get something out of an out of sorts Midtjylland. An early goal and first half red card quickly put paid to that. After competing well before the sending off, Esbjerg eventually collapsed to a 5-1 defeat.
Esbjerg are much better than that.
Head coach Jonas Dal was quoted on Twitter this week as highlighting his frustration of Esbjerg avoid giving the ball away in dangerous areas. They haven’t kept a clean sheet at home all season although they will have their best chance so far against Hobro. The international break has allowed Dal to address some issues at the back and expect a better looking defensive effort from Esbjerg this week.
At the other end of the pitch for Esbjerg, there are no problems. They have only failed to find the net in 3 of 15 games this season, and against the worst team in the league, at the Blue Water Arena, expect goals for the home team.
Hobro, despite winning fans for their willingness to have a go, are completely outclassed in the Superliga. They have had their highlights, including a mind boggling 2-0 win over Brondby in the summer, but a raft of injuries have just added to the pressure leading to 9 defeats in 11, including their last 6 away from home.
Although Hobro have every chance of getting on the score sheet, they just can’t stop the bleeding at the back. Sunday should be no different.
Esbjerg are listed as 0.75 goal favourites which for me looks half a goal light. Take Esbjerg -0.75 goals to get the job done, with any home win netting a profit.
Elsewhere in Denmark, Aarhus host the in-form team in the Superliga, Brondby, in 5pm kick-off. Brondby have been able to put all of their early season woes behind them and have marched up to 4го in the league after a run of good results. Undefeated in 6 games, including wins over the big 2 of Midtjylland and Copenhagen reflect their recent turn in fortunes.
Aarhus have a decent chance of surviving the 2015 Superliga. However it’s not likely to come by getting points against the likes of Brondby. The Whites have now lost 6 in 8 including a 3-1 loss to whipping boys Hobro, and will struggle to cope with a very well organised defensive unit.
In Brondby’s 8 games so far in 2015 against promoted teams, they have come out victorious on 6 occasions. Odds of 2.15 for Brondby to get the win on Sunday look more than fair, and can be backed with confidence to dominate the game, and get the win.
Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Esbjerg -0.75 at 1.90
