Sunderland v Tottenham Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Sunday 13th September

Sunderland v Tottenham – Stadium of Light at 13:30 live on Sky Sports 1

Two of the Premier League’s winless teams will battle it out in the early Sunday kick-off as Sunderland host Tottenham at the Stadium of Light.

After surviving relegation last season, holding on to Dick Advocaat and spending £25M on new players over the summer, Sunderland fans would have hoped for a better start than 2 points from their first 4 games.

The Black Cats have simply been outplayed in each of their games, first losing 4-2 to Leicester before suffering a 3-1 defeat to newly promoted Norwich.

They managed to nick a point against a decent Swansea side and at home to Aston Villa in a couple of slightly better performances but they need a lot more improvement if they are to avoid another relegation battle this term.

The good news for Sunderland is that they have been scoring, 6 goals in their first 4 games is better than most in the league. New signings M’Vila and Lens were on the score sheet against Villa and they will be hoping Borini can reproduce last seasons form.

Conceding 10 times however, is the worst record in the league, before Chelsea conceded 3 times against Everton yesterday, and it’s their defence that could let them down again on Sunday.

Three draws and an opening day 1-0 loss at Old Trafford hasn’t been what Spurs fans would have hoped for either as a top 4 finish looks to be a million miles away, even with Chelsea looking as poor as they do.

They begin their Europa League campaign this week and unless they significantly improve, a place in Europe’s second tier competition will be the best they can hope for this term.

Their defeat at Old Trafford could have been avoided and their were further signs of self destruction against Stoke, having gone 2-0 up before walking away with just a point.

Tottenham need to start scoring more goals and now have Son Heung-Min and Clinton N’Jie to take some of the burden off Harry Kane who scored twice whilst on England duty.

This is an important game for the North Londoners and one the fans will be expecting them to win. They are unbeaten in 5 years against the Black Cats and have won 7, drawn 3 of their last 10 meetings.

Sunderland are given +0.5 on the Asian Handicap betting market at 1.95 which is not big a big enough price for me and I don’t expect them to avoid defeat.

The value is with the away side to pick up their first 3 points of the season. I’m not expecting a classic but Spurs fans will not care how they win.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Tottenham -0.5 at 2.0
