Strasbourg v Nimes Asian Total Goals Preview – 24th November Saturday

Strasbourg v Nimes – La Meinau at 19:00 GMT

Strasbourg cemented their place in Ligue 1 last season to continue their remarkable rise back up through the ranks. The famous Alsace club disappeared to the amateur leagues after the 2011 season but bounced back, clinching successive league titles before ensuring their top-flight status in 2017/18.

Le Racing only stayed up by a solitary point but they did so in entertaining fashion. A largely leaky defence – that shipped a third-worst tally of 67 goals – meant Thierry Laurey’s team were forced to go on the offensive, seeing 24 of their 38 league matches featured three or more goals, 22 seeing both sides score.

Strasbourg have certainly hit par again this term, tabling a comfortable mid-table position thanks to a W4-D6-L3 return. Although not quite so prolific in the final-third, goals have again been on the agenda for Le Racing with 9/13 (69%) fixtures producing profitable Both Teams To Score selections.

Goals on the agenda

Indeed, Laurey’s troops have scored in all bar two of their 13 tussles in 2018/19, but also managed to silence just three of their opponents. Matches have averaged 2.77 goals-per-game, with that figure rising to 3.17 at their atmospheric Stade de la Meinau home as 4/6 (67%) games broke the Over 2.5 Goals barrier.

I’m therefore surprised and encouraged to see Over 2.5 Goals trading at odds-against quotes of 2.08 ahead of Saturday night’s contest between Strasbourg and newly-promoted Nimes. The two teams are renowned for their forward-thinking, offensive football and their meeting shouldn’t disappoint neutrals.

The hosts have notched at least twice in four of their six home ties this term with only struggling Dijon failing to get on the scoresheet at the de la Meinau. That should encourage Nimes, who hit the same opposition for four goals in their most recent away trip in Ligue 1.

Nimes pack plenty of punch

The Crocodiles were beaten 1-0 before the international break at Nice but a pair of red cards proved decisive in that encounter, as did a number of excellent interventions from opposition goalkeeper Walter Benitez. So the away side shouldn’t be deterred having scored 12 goals in five trips to bottom-half teams.

The guests’ games are averaging 2.92 goals-per-game – a figure that increases to 3.57 from their seven away days thus far. It’s a trend that follows on from Nimes’ high-scoring encounters in the French second division. With a wavering belief to follow their familiar open and attack-minded approach, it’s easy to support a goal-laden game here.

Asian Total Goals Betting Recommendation: Over 2.50 goals at 2.080
