Stoke v Chelsea – Britannia Stadium at 19:45
Under pressure Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea travel to the Britannia this evening to face Stoke in the League Cup 4th round in desperate need of a win. They suffered their 5th defeat in 10 Premier League games at the weekend, going down 2-1 away to West Ham and sit 15th in the league, it can’t get too much worse for the Blues at the moment.
Their loss to the hammers was their 3rd in 5 matches in all competitions and the League Cup holders are really starting to struggle. A win this evening will give them some confidence, especially for their league match against Stoke in 11 days time, after Liverpool at the weekend.
Stoke were on a 4 match winning run before their loss at home to newly promoted Watford at the weekend. It was a shock result for many, ending their 5 match unbeaten run, but it hasn’t been the greatest of starts for Mark Hughes.
The Potters sit just one place and one point above Cheslea in the league in a disappointing start to the season. Chelsea’s poor start is well documented but Stokes record of W3, D3 L4 is not great after last season’s record breaking season.
I’m not surprised to see Chelsea as favourties this evening despite their form and I expect them to pick up a confidence building win. The Britannia Stadium is not the fortress it once was but Hughes has got Stoke playing more attacking football which is slowly starting to pay off, however, they are not quite there yet.
Only 3 of stokes 10 league matches this term have seen 3 or more goals, but unlike last season, Chelsea’s games are full of them. 8 of their opening 10 have seen Over 2.5 and I make the 2.04 available on that market a big price. This is a cup game with changes expected and I think it should be quite open.
I like Chelsea -0.5 also at 2.04 and I expect them to shorten but for my official recommendation I’m on the Overs.
