Southampton v Everton Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Saturday 15th August

Southampton v Everton – St. Mary’s at 12:45 live on BT Sport 1

The Saints host Everton at St. Mary’s this Saturday lunchtime after both sides opened their campaign last weekend with 2-2 draws.

Ronald Koeman will be disappointed with a point having gone ahead through Graziano Pelle, but couldn’t hold on to their advantage and trailed Newcastle 2-1. Shane Long’s equaliser 11 minutes from time earned them a draw.

Roberto Martinez must also be unhappy with a point against newly promoted Watford at Goodison Park, a match he would have expected 3 points from. The Toffee’s went behind twice and were arguably lucky to come away with a point after Kone’s 86th minutes equaliser.

Both managers will be expecting more from their player this weekend, especially at the back and they will also have similar aspirations when it comes to league positions at the end of the season. Qualifying for Europe will be the goal for these two and this should be a good early test.

Four league places and 13 points separated the sides at the end of last season and it’s no surprise Southampton go into the match as favourites, I make them a bit short at 1.93 however. Everton haven’t won in 6 at St. Mary’s and lost both of last season’s league meetings but looking at their squads, I don’t see too much separating them.

The Saints lost 3 of their best players during the summer, Clyne to Liverpool, Schneiderlin to Utd and Alderweireld to Spurs. It was the same the year before but Southampton shocked everyone and for the best part of the campaign mounted a serious challenge on the top 4 before tailing off to finish 7th. I have low expectations for the Saints this term and don’t envisage being surprised like I was last season, a top 6 place I believe is out of reach.

Everton started last season very poorly and it was looking like they would be involved in a relegation scrap. They made it to the quarter finals of the Europa League which seemed to hinder their domestic season. After being knocked out of Europe, performances and results picked up in the Premier league as they pushed for a top half finish. 11th is where they ended up but will be looking to improve drastically this term. Again top 6, I believe is out of reach.

Despite not winning any of their last 6 against Southampton, Everton have drawn 3 of their last 6 at St. Mary’s. Both will be looking to get their first win on the board but I wouldn’t be surprised if they shared the points for a second week in a row.

The value has to be backing the underdogs on the Asian Handicap betting market. Everton +0.5 will be profitable if the Toffee’s avoid defeat and at even money it can’t be turned down.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Everton +0.5 @ 2.0
