Sheffield Utd v Southampton – Betting Review

Bramall Lane – Tuesday 16го December at 19:45

League One Sheffield Utd take on Southampton this evening for a place in the League Cup semi-final. Both will be looking to end a bad couple of weeks which has seen Sheff Utd without a win in 4 and Southampton losing their last 4 league matches.

The Blades sit 5го in league one after winning just one in their last six, but Utd have a superb cup record under Nigel Clough and will be confident of being able to overturn their Premier League opponents. They made the FA Cup semi-final last year season and have already knocked high flying West Ham out of this year’s League Cup. The Blades have only lost 2 if their last 17 cup matches.

After a fantastic start to the season, the Saints have slipped from second down to fifth in the league due to a run of 4 straight defeats. With a busy Christmas period approaching, and a tough looking set of fixtures in January, Southampton need to put this bad run behind them and gain some confidence with a win tonight. They will have to do that without Graziano Pelle as he is suspended but the good news is Morgan Schneiderlin should be fit after being an initial doubt.

If this match was at St. Mary’s I would be more confident of a Southampton win, but having to go to Bramall Lane, with Sheff Utd’s cup record I think the Saints are too short at 1.53. With that in mind, looking at the Asian Handicap market, Sheffield Utd +1 @ 1.98 is my value bet.
