Southampton v Tottenham – St Marys Stadium at 19:45 live on Sky Sports 1
My latest Азиатская фора preview focuses on the Premier League clash between Southampton and Spurs.
Both sides were on the winning end of results last weekend, but it’s Southampton that look value on the Asian Handicap market.
Last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the South Coast Derby took Southampton up to 7th in the Premier League table.
A single goal scored by Ryan Bertrand and a brace from Jay Rodriguez was enough to take all 3 points.
Claude Puel’s side have won their last 2 home games against Everton and Middlesbrough, both by a 1-0 scoreline.
Only Chelsea have a better defensive record at home than Southampton. The Saints have only lost 1 home game; a 2-0 defeat against Antonio Conte’s men.
62% of Southampton’s points have been obtained on home soil and they’ve kept a clean sheet in 50% of their league matches at St Mary’s.
Only 12% of Southampton’s home matches have seen over 2.5 goals and I’m expecting a low scoring tight affair again on Wednesday.
The home side were the last team to beat Spurs at White Hart Lane in the league and as a result, they’ll go into the game full of confidence
Spurs come into this match off the back of victories against Hull (3-0) and Burnley (2-1).
They’re currently 5th in the Premier League table, just 1 point off the top 4 and 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
Tottenham have won their last 4 home games in the Premier League, but away from White Hart Lane it’s a different story.
Away from home Spurs have looked considerably weaker and they’re now 5 Premier League games on the road without a win.
The away side haven’t taken 3 points on their travels since beating Middlesbrough (2-1) all the way back in September.
Only 30% of their current points total has been obtained on the road and 58% of their goals conceded have come away from White Hart Lane.
Away from home, only 38% of their matches have seen over 2.5 goals and therefore I’m not expecting many goals in this game.
Asian Handicap and Total Goals
To conclude, Southampton have only lost 1 game at St Mary’s and Spurs are winless in 5 Premier League games away from home.
Under 2.5 goals looks a decent bet as Southampton have a solid home record, but with the price as short as 1.70, there is better value to be had elsewhere.
Instead, I would look at Southampton’s side of the Asian Handicap market and backing The Saints +0.25 at 1.78 looks a good bet.
Southampton should be able to get a draw out of this game and if Spurs are off form, as they have been in several away games, they could even go on to win it.
Asian Handicap Recommendation: Southampton +0.25 at 1.78
