Top 10 most expensive football transfers of 2018

FOOTBALL WORLD’S MOST PRICED TALENTS

The anticipated January transfer window is just a couple of weeks away. All eyes are on watch with the transfer deal that will make it to the new year’s headlines.

Waves of transfer deals shook the European football scene this year that are not just stunning for their sensational effects but also for the amount of money that they had generated in order to complete deals.

So, here are the most expensive players in the transfer market this year so far:

10. Alisson – £56m
Liverpool was crying out for a good goalkeeper back then, and they finally find one when they signed Alisson from Roma with a £56 million fee. It is good investment though.

9. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – £56.1m
When Aubameyang failed to find a new club during the 2017 summer transfer window, Borussia Dortmund vowed to hold on him until the end of the league season. The prolific striker was eventually signed by Arsenal for a stunning £56.1 million.

8. Aymeric Laporte – £57m
In this year’s January Transfer window, Manchester City signed the central defender from Athletic Bilbao. Laporte agreed to join the Premier League club until 2023.

7. Riyad Mahrez – £60m
Mahrez’s departure from Leicester to Man City involved a whopping £60 million deal after the foxes fought through several transfer windows to sign the winger to the team. The fee made him City’s most expensive signing so far.

6. Thomas Lemar – £63m
The 22-year-old midfielder Lemar has been subject of interest from Arsenal and other big Premier League clubs, but he was destined for La Liga. Last June Atletico Madrid announced an agreement to sign the Monaco gun  for a staggering £52.9 million and went higher up later.

5. Kepa Arrizabalaga – £71.6m
This Spanish player became the most expensive goalkeeper after completing his transfer from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea. The young footballer won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship back in 2012.

4. Virgil van Dijk – £75m
The Dutch player became the most expensive defender of all time when he joined Liverpool during the 2017 summer transfer window, but the club backed off later and apologized. However, for the further improvement of their defense, the Reds signed him up again back in January this year with a reported fee of £75 million.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo – £88.5m
Most of the headlines back in summer were made by the unexpected transfer of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from the La Liga slate Real Madrid to the Serie A with Juventus. Ronaldo spent almost a decade in the Spanish club, and left it at a time when it was still great in form. The deal sent shockwaves all over the world.

2. Philippe Coutinho – £106m
Liverpool felt a pain in the chest when one of its beloved players Coutinho left them for Barcelona, as there seemed to be no apparent reason why the player should leave. Some of the Reds had tried to persuade the Brazilian midfielder. The deal was still made though.

1. Kylian Mbappé – £158m
The most expensive deal of summer and the year so far involved World Cup-winning young player Mbappe from Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain. His transfer fee worth £158 million made him the most expensive teenager ever and potentially the second most expensive player behind Neymar. Anyone who witnessed this kid play for PSG or for the World Cup knows how devastating he is in the field.
