Man City will be looking to bounce back from their Champions League defeat to Juventus this Saturday evening and make it 6 wins from their opening 6 matches in the Premier League. Standing in their way is a decent looking West Ham side who have already defeated Arsenal and Liverpool on the road this season.
Along with their 100% record, the Citizens are yet to concede in their opening 5 matches and have scored 11 goals. Last time out they nicked a 1-0 win over a strong Crystal Palace side but I expect them to win more comfortably this afternoon.
Their 1-0 injury time win over Palace will only increase belief amongst the team, it was hard fought but it’s a sign of champions to win when not at your best. It’s becoming harder to see any other team really pushing this season as their closest rivals have all faultered.
City’s UCL loss to Juventus would have hurt but I’m not expecting them to be affected by it going into this match.
Pellegrini will be sure not to underestimate the Hammers having seen them pick up 3 wins from their opening 5 matches. It’s been an inconsistent start for the Irons though, as well as wins against Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle, they have lost to Bournemouth and Leicester.
Under Slaven Bilic, we have seen some signs of huge improvement, new signing Dimitri Payet impressed against the Geordies last Monday evening, scoring twice and looks to be a really good player, great value at £12M. However, they still have a way to go and I do not see an upset on Saturday evening at the Etihad.
West Ham will look to last years 2-1 win over City at Upton Park for belief, but you have to go back 9 years since the last time the Hammers won away to City. Since then the Citizens have won 14, drawn 4 and lost just 3 times.
Bilic will be hoping for another huge scalp but I don’t think they will even come close. City have Aguero back to full fitness and is in line to start and with the rest of their attack, they will cause West Ham real problems.
A comfortable home win is the recommendation.
