Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich Asian Handicap Betting Preview – Saturday 1st August

Wolfsburg v Bayern Munich – Volkswagen Arena at 19:30 live on BT Sport

DFB-Pokal champions, VFL Wolfsburg host Bundesliga winners, Bayern Munich tomorrow evening in the German Super Cup. It will be the first time the two sides have met in the competition and both will be hoping to walk away with the first available piece of silverware of the season.

Die Wolfe enjoyed a fantastic season last year finishing runners up to champions Bayern Munich, ahead of the likes of Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund. With a record of W20 L5 D9, they stayed within 10 points of the Bavarians which is an achievement in itself.

Finishing second in the Bundesliga earned them a place playing alongside Europe’s elite in the Champions League. It will be hard for Dieter Hecking to surpass the achievements of last year but if they manage to keep hold of Kevin de Bruyne and players like Bas Dost and their new signings Carlos Ascues,Francisco Rodríguez and Max Kruse play to their potential, then anything is possible.

Bayern Munich won the title with several weeks to spare and were able to take their foot off the gas towards the end. They suffered disappointing defeats in the Pokal to Dortmund and the Champions League to Barcelona and will be hoping to improve in both competitions whilst defending their domestic crown.

Pep Guardiola has added a couple of players to his squad, Brazilian attacking midfielder, Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk and ex-Juventus star Arturo Vidal. Both are likely to feature this weekend and it will be interesting to see how they gel with the team.

Bayern have the added incentive on Saturday to avenge their 4-1 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Bundeslia in January. It was Die Rotten’s first defeat of the season and would have been humiliating for all associated with the club.

Wolfsburg’s pre-season has been poor, losing twice in the Emirates cup, to Villarreal and Arsenal, as well as only managing draw with Ajax and Lechia Gdansk. They will be hoping to improve dramatically and will need to, to stand a chance of defeating a very strong Bayern side.

Bayern are without Ribery, Badstuber and Kirchhoff. Robben, Martinez, Dante and Benatia are not fully fit so may only play a small part, if at all. That said, Bayern have strength in depth and are rightly favourites.

I expect Die Rotten to win and am recommending to back the -0.5 on the Asian Handicap Betting market at 1.92.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Bayern Munich -0.5 @ 1.92
