West Ham v Southampton Asian Handicap Preview – Sunday 25th September by @SC457

West Ham v Southampton – London Stadium at 16:00 live on Sky Sports 1

Sunday’s sole Premier League fixture see’s slow starters West Ham and Southampton meet at the London Stadium. It’s been a disappointing start to the new campaign for both sides but the Saints are showing signs of improvement. The same can’t be said for the Hammers. It’s the visitors who offer the value on the Asian Handicap market.

West Ham

It’s been a difficult beginning to the season for the Irons, picking up just one league win in five. Their last 3 EPL matches have all ended in defeat, conceding 11 goals and currently sit in the bottom three.

They were knocked out of the Europa League in the qualification stages and their move to the Olympic Stadium hasn’t been the smoothest. There have been some disturbing scenes in previous home matches, but security will be ramped up for this fixture.

After a superb first season in charge, Bilic would have had high expectations from his talented team. I don’t see their poor form continuing for too long, but the Croatian will be keen to turn it around quickly.

Even with home advantage, West Ham come into this game as underdogs, but on current form, they could be an even bigger price.

The Saints, under the tutelage of new boss, Claude Puel, have also started slowly. Two uninspiring draws against Watford and West Brom and away defeats to Man Utd and Arsenal, left them with just 2 points from a possible 12.

They were unlucky not to come away from the Emirates with something, Arsenal needing a very late penalty to steal the 3 points. Their performances were good and a win was coming. They have now won their last 3 in all competitions without conceding. Charlie Austin has netted 4 times in those 3 matches and will fancy getting on the score sheet against West Ham’s leaky defence.

I think they are going to continue to improve. They have some momentum now and deserve to be favourites here. I believe they are still slightly undervalued though.

Asian Handicap & Total Goals

At 1.83, the Saints offer some value +/- 0 (Draw No Bet) the Asian Handicap market. I certainly don’t see them losing this one and against the second worse defence in the league, they should have no problems in finding the back of the net.

There is also some value on the goals market. Southampton have conceded in both of their away games this season, and with Payet back, the Hammers’ attack is stronger. West Ham did manage a clean sheet against Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup in midweek, but that was Accrington Stanley. We are in for some goals here and at 1.99, Over 2.5 can be backed with confidence.

Asian Handicap Recommendation: Southampton +/- 0 at 1.83 & Over 2.5 goals at 1.99
