West Ham v Stoke City Asian Handicap Preview – Monday 16th April

West Ham v Stoke City – London Stadium at 20:00

Just one match takes place on Monday, with West Ham United welcoming Stoke City to the London Stadium. Seven points separate the two sides, with just five games to go.

West Ham took charge of the last game

When the two sides met at the Bet365 stadium in December, it was a day of joy for West Ham United fans. They ran out 3-0 winners over Stoke, in a game which added to the pressure on then-Stoke City manager Mark Hughes. He would receive the sack less than a month later and Stoke has then fallen into deeper problems in the Premier League.

No love lost between Arnautovic and Stoke fans

On that day in December, the villain was Marko Arnautovic. The Austrian moved from Stoke to West Ham in the summer and came back to haunt his old side. He was dominant throughout the game, despite plenty of heckles from the Stoke faithful, and managed to get on the scoresheet in the 75th minute of the match.

Stoke needs three points

It’s looking grim for Stoke City. The Potters have scored just seven Premier League goals in 2018, fewer than any other side. They’ve also matched their Premier League record of 18 defeats in a single season.

The appointment of Paul Lambert has done little to turn their fortunes around and with just five games left, they sit six points from safety. Failure to win here would surely give them an impossible mountain to climb to safety.
