Veikkausliiga Asian Handicap Preview – Thursday 14th April

RoPS v HJK – RoPS looking for stability at home

Home team RoPS had a rough away journey to start the season. A miraculous redemption from 3-0 to a 3-4 away win at Vantaa was followed by a frustrating performance at Mariehamn. Malinen’s boys couldn’t find a way to construct proper scoring chances and centre back Jammeh’s mistake gave the islanders a 1-0 win.

Meanwhile HJK registered another convincing win home against VPS, despite the visitors having more ball possession. Lehkosuo’s only concern was the cheap goal centre back Lum Rexhepi kindly served to VPS with his awful pass. Japanese star Atomu Tanaka scored again with a header and AC Milan loanee Nnamadi Oduamadu continued fooling his opponents on the left flank.

Although RoPS did grab a home win last year against HJK, this year’s power rankings are leaning heavily in favour of HJK. The visitors have no new injuries or suspensions and they have had a good week’s rest.

Few things go against HJK or for RoPS. Home turf may keep the result civilized, but an away win carries good value.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: HJK -0.5 at 1.95

SJK v IFK M – Can IFK offer a challenge?

Champions SJK started their season up north against Kemi, who are in exile in Rovaniemi. The season debut was a repeat of a cup match, ending once again in an SJK win. It was neither a big surprise that SJK barely scored a second goal.

IFK Mariehamn made their home debut against RoPS. The islanders’ victory shouldn’t excite their fans too much, as RoPS didn’t offer too much of an offensive threat. However, star striker Dever Orgill’s goal is a promising sign.

SJK played, as expected, a disciplined game against Kemi, allowing the weak opponent to possess the ball with a low risk for goal scoring chances. At home they will likely have a more active approach and try to create a good amount of scoring chances.

The visitors haven’t stepped up their game enough from the awkwardly poor off-season performances. SJK are a solid home team and a big favorite.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: SJK -0.5 at 1.67

KuPS v PK-35 Vantaa – Now or never, KuPS!

KuPS are looking awful, really awful. Relegation favorites Ilves had no trouble robbing full points once again away in Kuopio. Coach Rajamäki once again made the worst silly season in the league, cornering himself in a tactical fiasco.

Speaking of tactical fiascos, is PK-35 boss Shefki Kuqi on a way to one? The red and blacks allowed HIFK to take an early lead in what was to become a very heated match. Frustration in his team and a short temper made Njazi Kuqi, Shefki’s little brother, go absolutely bonkers. A head butt followed by a punch on HIFK’s Jani Bäckman will be punished with a long suspension. So now that Shefki’s missing one of his most important pieces, how is his offensive mindset going to compensate that? Captain Kim Raimi is still likely to be sidelined, whom PK-35 surely will miss during their temper tantrum.

Veikkausliiga teams everywhere, are expected to have a more active approach at home, which KuPS will have problems later on. However, now is one of their few good chances to grab a fan-pleasing home win and avoid a potentially disastrous season start. A mentally unstable PK with a doubtful reaction from coach Kuqi offer good value for a KuPS win.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: KuPS +/- 0 at 1.82
