Veikkausliiga Asian Handicap Preview – Friday 13th May

Ilves v PK-35 Vantaa

After a great start to the season Ilves has fallen to a 3 game losing streak, which is to an extent, just out of bad luck. IFK Mariehamn beat them with a lucky screamer by Dafaa, HJK away at Sonera is a tough place for anyone, not to mention the monstrous 2nd half by HJK. Only the most recent loss to PS Kemi really bothers me, but then again, it was an away game. Ilves’ strength lies in Tammela.

PK35’s season is yet to see its bright days. The very first few games were a complete circus where everyone wanted to be the biggest clown. Now the biggest scandals and hottest heat seem to lie in the past, but the question remains – is this it? Sure, Shefki Kuqi has been missing his captain and biggest piece of defense, Kim Raimi, as well as his brother up top, but will, or even can the game improve enough with their return on the pitch?

Since the atrocious performances they’ve managed put up a fair fight even against HJK at home and IFK Mariehamn away. However, one single point from these two games doesn’t feed them for long. Point being, there’s a step up, but will the points start to drop for PK-35? Njazi Kuqi, Rodriguez and Portela are all back but captain Raimi is still unsure. Center back Pavle Milosavljevic is likely to make a return for Ilves.

Ilves are strong on home soil. Disarming PK-35 shouldn’t be a problem at all. Sure, Ilves has struggled recently with scoring, but the opponents’ defense isn’t one of the best ones.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: Ilves +/- 0 at 1.82

RoPS v KuPS

Home team RoPS are hosting KuPS after two displeasing draws. In the previous game they allowed HIFK to take control of the game during the second half. A loss wasn’t too far away. Meanwhile their home draw against Lahti, who played 2 men down for the majority of the game, was left scoreless mostly due to star striker Aleksandr Kokko’s inefficiency.

KuPS looked to be doomed for relegation in the early season. There was simply nothing to cheer for. However, former league star Mika Ääritalo has blossomed after a few horrible seasons and yes, some luck has been there too. Luck as in facing inefficient teams, such as VPS, who were better almost in every category last Saturday, except for goals scored.

Isn’t it then bothering that I mentioned Kokko and inefficiency? Well, the difference between RoPS’ and VPS’ inefficiencies is huge – the former creates at least a handful of good scoring chances, whilst the latter keeps the ball but can’t find it’s way to optimal scoring positions. Also, it’s a home game for RoPS.

It’s time for KuPS’ good form to end, their defense isn’t tough enough on RoPS turf. Whether Kokko gets back to scoring or not doesn’t matter, because someone from RoPS will.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: RoPS -0.5 at 1.88

IFK M v FC Lahti

IFK Mariehamn took an easy, disciplined win on Veritas Stadium in Turku against Inter. Jamaican striker Dever Orgill was simply superior once again, and got back to scoring business. Inter were stripped from all weapons, and played an awful game. All in all, it was an impressive bounce back from a worthless goalless draw home against PK-35.

Speaking of discipline and impressive results, Lahti grabbed a surprising 3-0 win home against SJK. Impressive result yes, considering they were lacking centre back Tanska and offensive mastermind Ivan Solovyev due to suspensions. Disciplined performance? No, not by any means. The result doesn’t reflect the game’s storyline at all, which was a rather chaotic 90 minutes of football, where both sides got good scoring chances every now and then.

Lahti’s midfield-talent Mikko Kuningas will be gone for at least the rest of the month, as he’s been loaned to associate-team Fluminense’s academy. Tanska will return after serving his suspension, but Solovyev will still have to rest this one. No new injuries or suspensions for Mariehamn.

Don’t believe the hype. Lahti’s victory was against a team, that’s so far been a bigger disappointment than Chelsea in Premier League. And, as earlier said, it didn’t reflect the match.

Asian Handicap Betting Recommendation: IFK Mariehamn -0.25 at 1.98
