UFC 208 Betting Preview – Sunday 12th February By @J_RKeith

Holly Holm v Germaine de Randamie – Barclays Center at 05:00 live on BT Sport 2

Here we go! Well without commentator Mike Goldberg, but on Sunday will be a moment in history for the UFC as Holly Holm will be taking on Germaine de Randamie at The Barclays Center for the Women’s Featherweight title.

Holm Sweet Holm

Holly Holm has had a strange two years considering she reached her peak when she knocked Ronda Rousey off the top spot in some style; winning through a head-kick in the second round and becoming the new bantamweight champion. Yet, since that day, things haven’t gone swimmingly for ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’.

Two back-to-back defeats to the retired Meisha Tate and number one contender Valentina Schevchenko ruined her unbeaten record and brought the 34-year-old back down to earth, making her think what her next move would be.

The southpaw heads into this bout with a record of ten wins and two losses, winning seven through KO. However, the only issue with Holm is her striking accuracy is only at 32%, but they are devastating hits considering she lands 3.08 strikers per minute.

When it comes to groundwork, neither fighter is strong, but Holm holds the advantage. Once confident in the Octagon Holm is ready to try new things, which we witnessed against Rousey when she took the armbar expert down. I mean she has a 100% takedown accuracy, yet manages less than one takedown per 15 minutes.

If Holm wants this victory, she will need to really mix it up against the Dutch fighter. Both have experience within kickboxing, but I believe Holm can offer more within the Octagon with takedowns and ability to snuff out the attack.

The Iron Lady

Not sure whether this Lady is for turning, but Germaine de Randamie is looking to cause an upset on Sunday when she fights in her fifth UFC event to try and secure the first title of her MMA career.

The 32-year-old goes in with an average fight time of nine minutes, while holding a record of six wins and three losses in her professional career. Even though she has a two-inch reach advantage over her opponent, she uses it to her advantage putting her whole body-weight through punches.

The Utrecht born fighter has a strike accuracy of 44%, better than the American’s, while landing more strikes per minute and standing with an 82% takedown defence.

One thing to take into consideration is that Randamie has never gone past the third round in her MMA career, yes some of those bouts were only three rounds, but, unlike Holly, she has not competed in a full five round encounter.

This is a difficult one to call, mainly because both fighters are great at what they do within kickboxing and boxing; the only question is who will be able to gain the advantage and have a better back-up plan come Sunday. Many are tipping Germaine to win this one with her brute force and power, yet the skills and experience of Holm will be good to see in this debut Women’s Featherweight title fight.

If I had to back an outcome for this one, I don’t see it going the distance. I’m not saying it will blitz past or be a Nunes v Rousey finish, but under 3.5 rounds should just about do it.

Handicap Betting Recommendation: Under 3.5 rounds at 2.38
