Groups E & G – Tuesday 25th November
CSKA Moscow V AS Roma – 17:00
The early kick off sees Roma travel to Moscow in what could turn out to be the decisive match in Group E. Bayern Munich have already qualified in top spot, but all 3 other teams in the group can still claim a place in the 1st knockout round behind them. Based on recent form and home advantage, CSKA look well positioned to snatch a vital 3pts in the race for qualification. Although, Roma won easily in the reverse fixture, they are coming off 2 humbling defeats by Bayern and won’t enjoy the sub-zero temperatures. The advised trade is to back CSKA Moscow +0.25 at 1.83.
Manchester City V Bayern Munich – 19:45
The reigning Premier League Champions have had yet another torrid year in UEFA’s blue ribbon event. Without a win and just 2pts so far from their 4 games, it’s a miracle that they can still qualify for the next round but they do need other results to go their way. One slight advantage for the Citizens tonight is that Bayern have already won the group, so might not be going full tilt for the win. However, with Yaya Toure suspended, various injury concerns and poor recent form the advised trade is to back Bayern Munich -0.5 at 2.10 which is still decent value under the circumstances.
Schalke V Chelsea – 19:45
Although Chelsea currently sit at the top of Group G, the Premier League leaders have not been at their ruthless best so far in the Champions League this season. Apart from the easy 6-0 home win against the group whipping boys Maribor, Jose Mourinho’s team have struggled to find the back of the net, scoring just 3 goals in the other 3 games. However, Schalke who are now managed by ex-Chelsea legend Roberto Di Matteo, have a bad habit of conceding goals. But, they’re also undefeated at home in all competitions this season and with qualification in top spot available, backing Schalke + 0.50 at 2.15 looks like good value tonight.
Sporting Lisbon V Maribor – 19:45
All 4 teams in Group G can still qualify for the knockout stages of this year’s tournament but Maribor are still without a win, after 3 draws and loss so far and just 3 goals scored. Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon can rightly feel hard done by, as they could be on 7pts if it weren’t for 90th minute goals by Maribor and Schalke in previous matches. However, Maribor should be confident after their 1-1 draw against Chelsea and with Maribor +1.5 at 2.05 it could pay to back the underdog in what should be a tight match.
