Strasbourg v Monaco Asian Total Goals Preview – 20th October Saturday

Strasbourg v Monaco – La Meinau at 19:00 live at BT Sport

Thierry Henry has been named as the new head coach at Monaco this midweek. The former Arsenal and France forward replace Leonardo Jardim, who was sacked by the Ligue 1 side last Thursday following an inauspicious start to the new season.

Henry started his career at Monaco and has been working as an assistant to the Belgium manager Roberto Martinez. The principality club agreed on a contract until the summer of 2021 following failed moves by both Bordeaux and Aston Villa to install him in the hot-seat in recent months.

Jardim had led Monaco to the French title in 2017. However, last year’s Ligue 1 runners-up have struggled this season, sitting 18th and with only one win in all competitions. Les Monegasques failed to succeed at all in their last 10 outings but their lack of progress can’t all be placed at Jardim’s feet.

The club failed to replace key personnel over the past two transfer windows, while it’s fair to say that Monaco have been a touch unfortunate in Ligue 1 action. Les Rouges et Blancs are posting a 54% Expected Goals from open play ratio in their opening nine outings (W1-D3-L5) but have converted just 8.49% of their attempts at goal.

Goals on the agenda

Defensively, the guests have recorded a solitary shutout, conceding an average of 6.78 shots from inside the penalty box per-game. It’s therefore, a slight surprise to see that only four of their domestic fixtures have featured at least three goals, although their three away days thus far have averaged 3.33 goals-per-game.

On Saturday night, Monaco travels to Strasbourg. The Alsace outfit finds themselves perched just inside the top half of the Ligue 1 table, boasting the fourth-best attack in the division (scoring 16 goals), and their offensive mind-set should lead us towards another goal-filled game.

Over 2.5 Goals is trading at 1.92 is well worth supporting. Since promotion back to the top-flight after a nine-year absence, Strasbourg have delivered profit for Over 2.5 Goals supporters in 18/30 (60%) of their Stade de la Meinau encounters.

Strasbourg’s hot attack

Only one club so far this season have managed to prevent the hosts from scoring: Lyon, at the Groupama Stadium in Week 3 (2-0). Since that match, Thierry Laurey’s men have scored in all six of their Ligue 1 matches – the longest such run for the club in this competition since 2006.

That Strasbourg have discovered such form is due in no small part to the attacking duo of Lebo Mothiba and Nuno Da Costa, who between them have scored half of the club’s goals this season. Both players currently sit in the top 10 on the Ligue 1 scorers chart and form one of the league’s hottest strike partnerships.

Still, the Alsace outfit should give Monaco opportunities. Laurey’s troops have faced more shots than 13 of their Ligue 1 rivals over the first nine rounds of action, which should lead us towards an open, entertaining and high-scoring contest on Saturday night.
